RL - are referees bottling sending offs?

BBC 'discussion'

Interesting discussion on '606' online about the first sending off after 96 matches. Are referees bottling sending-offs by just putting incidents "on report". RL refs are usually a lot more liberal when it comes to sending offs (i.e. you can have a 26 man brawl and no-one gets sent off!!)

What is your view?

Player lies flat out, ref didnt see it. "On report" is a superb idea in this instant. Ref doesnt need to guess, and offender will get dealt with.
However recently, refs who have seen the incident are also using it. I feel this is where they "bottle" it. Look at Mason in the tri-nations, was allowed to play against GB for 70 minutes after knocking Fielden out with a straight right. Also, if the guy gets a ban in retrospect, that team still field 13 next week. If the player was dealt with in the match, they would be down to 12.
Perhaps a directive using on report only for incidents unseen by the official would reduce such claims of a lack of bottle by our officials. The ones who've stepped up in Kliens brief and Gansons continued absense have been superb. I feel the standard has got better, and wouldnt mind this continuing at Huddersfield on Sunday. Incidently Crispy, who have leeds got in the next round of the cup? oh, sorry I forgot.

Have :poo: that! :P

Sorry, had to put the new emoticon to use!! :D

But yeah, I do agree, if an incident is seen by the officials, it should be dealt with there and then. I don't mind a mass brawl being put on report, as quite often the sly right hook is missed - but a blatant clothes-line tackle should be dealt with there-and-then IMO.

But, with the rules/laws as they are at present, with the option of putting an incident on report - is it ever going to change? It is a bit of a wimp's way out in all honesty!

I'm doubting that is what you told Mr Ganson! :P

yep, went the same way as the other 9. Worst one was when a guy Jawed me to the forearm, breaking said jaw in the process, and I was the one who got dismissed.
And lets not forget, the ones for abuse of the official were purely as a result of the Yorks/Lancs refs not having a firm enough grasp of Geordie!
