Close of Day 1 - England 200/3 (56 overs) Alistair Cook made his 5th Test hundred in fine style. Matt Prior made his debut, and the WI looked a bit out of sorts IMO. England's tail again worries me, with Plunkett starting the tail at #8 - although I suspect we will be strong enough to beat the WI. Good to see Harmison back, and hopefully back to full form. Also, good to see Panesar has retained his place, which looked under doubt as England threatened to play 4 seamers, especially given the lack of Freddie in this test (due to injury) |

Cook taking advantage of some poor bowling superbly, he really is an absolute star. Plunkett doesn't worry me, he has good ability with the bat. They've given Collingwood a couple of lives, which you can't really afford to do as he then tends to go on and make a big score. |

Matt Prior is setlling in nicely. Hopefully him and Bell can continue this partnership and lead us towards a big score, maybe meaning we don't have to bat again. |

Just plodding along at the moment, not much happening in all honesty. We need a quick 150 (in 18-22 overs) then look at a declaration tonight IMO. Get two bites of the cherry with a newish ball. They haven't scored any quicker today than they did yesterday at the moment. |

West Indies has proved to the world that they simply can't compete at this level anymore. |

I do love Monty Panesar. Asad Rauf seems to be an 'outer', which is good in my book. |

Yeah, Monty bowled really, really well - even Richie Benaud said so!! Asad Rauf an "outer" - yeah, unless your name is Paul Collingwood!! :P Hopefully we can get the 10 remaining wickets today! |

A lot of talk about the declaration, was it too late? I think you can argue both ways really, they only need to score bat all day and score 4 an over to win, but I honestly can't see that happening (even though we have no Hoggard and Harmison and Plunkett are misfiring a little) meaning I think it was perhaps a touch cautious on Strauss' part. Will we win? Well, I'd say the draw is the most likely result, but a good bowling performance could see us home. A Windies win is very much an outside bet! |

I think the declaration was maybe about 5 overs too late - those extra 5 overs would have given us a proper go at them last night; rather than just 2 overs! I think it's a toss-up between an England win and a draw - I'm edging towards an England win - think it's a tall order for the WI to bat all day (weather permitting) |

And back on, and now off for bad light. What was a probable draw is a certainty now!! :argh: |

The weather is probably the reason behind the draw if it is one. However I cannot feel that we need to realise that you just cannot take 2 days to complete an innings! |

True, but if we had managed to bowl out WI for under 354 (which, IMO with a firing bowling attack, we should have been able to do) then we would have had 3 days to bowl them out twice. To date, there has been 347 overs out of a possible 450 (90 per day), representing almost a quarter of the test being lost due to the elements. The declarations have been too conservative for me - certainly the 2nd innings in hindsight (not that it would have made too much difference), there is arguement that we could have had 10+ overs at the WI on Friday evening? |
