The ICC have appointed Darrell Hair as one of 3 umpires for the upcoming tri-series in Mombasa between Kenya, Scotland and Canada, and also as one of 7 umpires for the ICC World Cricket League Division 1 competition (featuring Kenya, Scotland, Ireland, Canada, Bermuda and Holland) in Nairobi beginning on 30th of this month.

Interestingly, the ICC felt the need to emphasise that "The inclusion of Darrell Hair in these appointments follows the decision of the ICC Executive Board in November 2006 not to appoint him to future matches involving Full Members."

Well IMO he was unlucky to get the treatment he did in the first place and I believe he should still be umpiring at the highest level instead of what he is doing.

Why was it unfair. From what I saw, it came across to me as though he penalised Pakistan for something that the pitch and natural wear and tear did to the ball.

It would be a bit like no-one noticing a crack in the ground, Flintoff bowing onto it and creating a dent in the ball. He never even noticed the crack, never mind intended to damage the ball, but England are still punished for ball tampering.

Anyone else think this is 'punishment'?

Yes he got it wrong but he obviously felt at the time that the ball was being tampered with and felt it wasn't just "natural wear and tear" and therefore IMO was right to question it, becuase if it was going on and he had not picked up on it then he would have also got it wrong.

I think for things such as this in the game, you should be able to put incidents on report (like in rugby) if the umpire isn't sure and then it can be looked at using cameras etc to determine and it would also cut any arguements during the game and it would not stop play.
