Brendan Malone, despite him refereeing us 4 games ago? Poor scheduling. Not complaining he is Mr Steady Eddy and is exactly what is needed last game of the season. |

Six key games at top and bottom of L1 (subject to midweek results): Gills v Plymouth (Brendan Malone) Scunthorpe v Bradford City (John Brooks) Rochdale v Charlton (Tony Harrington) Northampton v Oldham (Keith Stroud) Fleetwood v Walsall (Kevin Johnson) AFC Wimbledon v Bury (Darren Drysdale) L2 - two massive games at the bottom, Barnet v Chesterfield (Dean Whitestone) :cheer: Coventry v Morecambe (Andy Davies) plus (for playoff places) Lincoln v Yeovil (Eddie Ilderton) Mansfield v Crawley (Ben Toner) I wish the teams of players and officials all the best for Saturday  |

I must admit I was a bit surprised with this appointment, bearing in mind that (subject to tomorrow's showdown at Scunthorpe), Gills v Plymouth could be a crunch game for the L1 playoffs. I am not disputing Brendan's experience or normally reliable performance levels, more the fact that he has been on the sidelines quite a bit this season and (imo) has not had sufficient game time back in action to justify this appointment. I wish him well. Like a certain ref at AFCB, Michael Salisbury will be getting his own car parking space at Gresty Road, the number of times he has refereed there this season ;-) |

David Webb refereed Wigan at Rochdale on 10th April! Darren Drysdale refereed Wimbledon at Shrewsbury on 24th March. John Brooks refereed Scunthorpe v Rochdale on 24th March. It's getting like the Premier League! |

I thought we'd seen rather a lot of David Webb, but actually this will only be his third Doncaster game, and he hasn't refereed us since 17th September. On the other hand we've had John Brooks five times, four of them since Christmas. |

To A. Turner. Best not to criticise unless you can do a better job. Ever tried appointing referees for games all around the country? |

RefMan1 I would imagine there are a number on here who have acted as referees secretaries at various levels and who would also have been questioned if a referee saw a team twice within a month for no good reason With foitball league referees being able to travel anywhere that is of no consideration. Maybe they need more referees? There have been a number of injuries to contend with but to me it has, at times, looked like put a pin in the page and see who we get |

When I get a moment I'll do some stats on the referees appointed to Doncaster Rovers games this season. There are a lot of referees on the National Group who haven't done any of our games, so I don't think it can be down to a shortage of numbers. |

There are enough referees and enough flexibility in travelling to avoid the scenarios mentioned above. It’s hardly the Rochdale Sunday League. |

With the abolition of the age limits a few years ago, I don't think we have been made aware of any retirements this weekend. Graham Salisbury is the current 'father' or 'grandfather' on the FL and he is 4O at Derby, having refereed Newport v Cambridge last weekend. I wonder whether he may get a playoff semi and retire after it as Nigel Miller did last season at Blackpool. I think it's a pity in a way if refs don't get a send-off, for example as Scott Mathieson did at Carlisle awhile back, but that is one of the downsides of not having compulsory retirements due to age. Is anyone aware of any FL refs who will be retiring either this weekend or after the playoffs? |

Thanks Lincoln97, I've put a separate tribute under General Discussion. A pity in one sense that Gills v Plymouth has less significance now in view of Plymouth's defeat last night at Scunthorpe but I wish him well for Saturday. Presumably he will continue to pound the streets of Salisbury at the crack of dawn on his postal rounds! |

Refman So you have to have done the job then before you can criticise.Dont talk daft,I have every right to criticise afterall this is a forum for debate. I just think that the appointments nowadays are crazy when we have Kevin Johnson and John Brooks 4 times in one season while there are 14 referees who we could have had and we have not had any or them. But thats not a criticism as this isnt allowed on this forum accoring to Ref man. :argh: :argh: :argh: |

Kevin Johmson was replaced by Anthony Backhouse at half time. Now he's my question - I have never seen Anthony Backhouse officiate live so to speak but the once I saw him on the telly he had dark hair and the official who took over yesterday had sandy coloured hair.So was it Anthony Backhouse or somebody else ? |

Definitely Backhouse, has a very distinctive running style, quite 'solidly' built too |
