A crucial basement battle in L2, Grimsby v Chesterfield, but why the need for SG1 ref, Robert Madley? Particularly when another key basement fixture, Barnet v Forest Green, has Nichola Kinseley :'( |

There was a load of aggro amongst the fans when they met on the opening day and Grimsby fans have been involved in subsequent aggro since, so I suspect a more senior referee has been chosen for that reason. I doubt Barnet and Forest Green fans have ever engaged in aggro! |

Huge game, as the losers will be in real danger of losing their Football League status. Also, unlike Barnet and Forest Green both clubs are relatively well supported. In this case the choice of a SG1 referee is more than justified. Though whether Bobby Madley is the right man is another matter! |

I think you will find that there has been more incidents involving Chesterfield Fans recently, although Grimsby do have an element of trouble makers. Chesterfield forums have been predicting trouble on Saturday. Last home game Port Vale fans attempted to get in to the home stand, and there was trouble outside, perhaps they are expecting the same from Chesterfield. |

Scott Oldham replaced Andy Haines at Rochdale v Portsmouth. Apparently Haines pulled a muscle yesterday. This was Scott Oldham's third match at Rochdale this season and the second in three weeks. |

One of the assistants at Gillingham v Donny swapped duties with Adrian Waters midway through the first half after sustaining an injury. I can't be sure as I wasn't there but I suspect it was Mr. Finch. |

Yeovil's disciplinary record at home seems to be absolutely appalling indeed!! This is the third time they've been reduced to 9 at home, I guess it's a good job the likes of Breakspear and Kettle aren't frequent visitors to Huish Park otherwise they'll be calling for the u-16's to make up the numbers!!! Need a bit of luck to end a long streak without a win and looks like Grimsby got that. The penalty looks like it him on the shoulder rather than the hand?!?.. |

Craig Hicks at Plymouth appears to have had a shocker. If this is the standard then comments about poor standards in EFL may be justified however hard I try to support referees. |

Think you need to expand on why you say that. From the highlights, the fact that Mr Hicks didn't blow up immediately for the :red: incident suggests input from one of his colleagues. The footage isn't of great help, the player sent off doesn't appear to be looking at the player who goes down. Penalty decision seemed soft, looked like two players going for the ball, one stronger than the other. The second yellow was for either doing something to the penalty spot or remark made to the referee, again unclear from the footage. Some charactertically abusive remarks from the odious Steve Evans post-match. I don't know whether there was any merit in the complaints he had about Plymouth players escaping sanction for bad tackles, but expect the FA to come knocking about his comments re the referee. Maybe our resident Plymouth/Peterborough posters on here could add more? |

Steve Evans is not my favourite manager and says things in a way I dislike but the red card was a game changer. Channel 5 last night thought card was wrong and my view is that Plymouth player initiated the contact and came off worse! Penalty maybe arguable but what did official see to warrant red? |

I agree with that about the straight red, but the fact the Plymouth player was down for a period before play was stopped suggests it wasn’t Mr Hicks who called the incident, given the thinking is to blow up immediately if a red card is to be produced and not try to play advantage. |

If anything, the Plymouth player (Carey) should be done for simulation. He simply ran into the Posh player and then completely fabricated and over-exaggerated what had happened, but he's got form for this. This was quite evident from the Channel 5 highlights and although Evans is a horrible individual, he does have a point over this incident. |

The views of Steve Evans according to the Peterborough Telegraph: It’s a penalty, there’s no disputing that. He sends my right-back off and says it’s an elbow, but from the video evidence I’ve just watched we will appeal - it’s a shambolic decision. The tackle on the boy Ness on George Cooper - he’s already on a yellow. Perhaps it’s a straight red. If you give him the benefit it’s a second yellow. He’s a buckler for me. I’m not questioning his integrity and his honesty but he’s produced a diabolical performance in such a big game for both clubs. We didn’t get beat by Plymouth, we got beaten by a horrendous referee. Let’s look at why Ness is on the park and Ryan Taylor, who elbows a player. Players are honest. I’ve spoken to two or three Plymouth boys as I’m walking off and they don’t know why Ness is on the pitch or Ryan Taylor. There’s defining moments. Liam Shephard’s is never a red card. If Steven Taylor has said something inappropriate the referee has the right to take whatever action he takes. But these are not fine line decisions. He’s cost us a good point. He should not be in League One. He’s had seven or eight games in League One and when you check his stats - and all managers check them - probably none in an atmosphere like today, probably not with the value of the game there is today, and he buckled it. |

I suppose if Peterborough win their appeal then it is possible that Carey could be charged with simulation. I believe deceiving an official to get an opponent sent off falls within the scope of the simulation rules. |
