Bit surprised to see an SG1 ref (Graham Scott) in charge of the South Yorkshire derby at Donnies.

To answer the next question, Carl Boyeson - experienced and (from my sight of him at Gresty Road) largely dependable. Fans of Grimsby may not agree :innocent:

Not really surprised. It's a big game, will have a large crowd and is televised. Could have been ok for a SG2 though.

You’ve got to laugh at the EFL’s “increased attention” drivel.

If I were Ben Toner ( an extremely talented up and coming referee in my opinion ) I would be seriously hacked off by this decision which is hardly a vote of confidence in his abilities. I am quite sure he would have taken the "increased attention" in his stride.

I totally agree. Knowing Ben well, he would have taken the fixture in his stride and if I was him I would be hacked off. However as he knows he is up and coming he will go to Carlisle and give a first class performance I am sure.
Sorry to see Graham Salisbury is injured though.

Absolutely agree! What the Guardian article did not explain was the "amusement" in his name, which simply can sound like bent owner if it is spoken quickly. If that type of thing was something which would affect any referee, then Phillip Don would never have set foot over the white line.

It is a nonsensical decision and I just wonder if the powers that be feel they made an appointment error in the first place, considering Ben's connection to Fleetwood. If that is the case, then it's just as bad

Ah 'bent owner' that's the joke. I was struggling to understand it. Rather good one actually.

Exactly, hence why I said the EFL's statement was drivel.

If that was followed through Jim Bent would have never got any games. And as for the referee of the 1878 FA Cup Final...

Ben Toner had an interesting incident to deal with at Carlisle. He gave a free kick against Yeovil and cautioned the offender. He was then called over by his assistant and advised of an off the ball incident in the Yeovil penalty area. Result was a red card for a Yeovil player and a penalty.

Had to look him up
Segar B*****d his name, poor soul! Refereed the FA Cup Final in 1878 at the age of just 24.
No doubt the original “B*****d in the black”

I thought he was inconsistent. One moment he gave us a FK, we did the same to them it wasnt a foul. Not sure on the penalty, I dont know what he has given it for. 4/10
