We had Darren Handley less than a month ago at Northampton. We have also had David Webb twice this season. The appointments in Leagues One and Two really need to be spread better.

Agree with JohnlCoyle. We have Sarginson tomorrow night despite only having less then a month ago.

Happy with Craig Hicks. I know he is a newbie, any observations worth noting? Usual suspects on the lines. Thats something that needs work also. Tranter's 5th game at HP this season and we have had 7 home games.

Don't know who Craig hicks is but I'm sure he's polishing his red card already
It's nice to be important but much more important to be NICE ;)

Mr Hicks is a fairly steady performer, not the most card-happy of officials.

I like a steady official. The chap behind me won't be happy, very vocal and everytime there is a foul he wants a booking. Also means Argyle won't get ANOTHER sending off.

And yet we (Rochdale) have had 16 different referees so far.

At that level they have a 125 mile travel radius for AR's. Fine in theory but for us southern based teams it means you get the same half a dozen AR's from the next county over at home games as we are outside of the 125 mile radius for the majority of AR's!
Officially a Southern Softie!

Slightly surprised to see David Coote and Andrew Madley at Spotland, unless that is, there is more to Rochdale v Rotherham than I know about :sherlock:

Craig Hicks has average Yellow Cards of 4.13 per match this season, the 7th highest in all 4 Leagues!

War of the Roses ... with three white rose officials...

Seriously, I suppose they like the SG2 officials to justify their salaries.

While my team gave a particularly poor performance and deserved nothing from the game, the display by Mr Coote was also fairly abysmal.

His decision-making was erratic and inconsistent throughout, but he saved his best one for when a Rotherham player was down on the pitch (a regular occurrence in this game) and allowed play to continue while they had possession. As soon as they gave possession away, he decided he would blow the whistle to stop play, much to the anger of the home fans. We then witnessed a modern miracle as Rotherham's physio literally turned water into wine with his treatment and subsequent recovery of said player.

As said, I'm more interested in my own team's failings at the moment, but Coote's performance was probably the worse I've seen from any official this season. Quite how he is a member of SG2 is beyond me, although I'm sure there are reasons.

An SG1 team for Notts County v Forest Green. The only SG1s in action by the looks of it. Is there something particular about this fixture?

Doubt it, it was the first time they'd played each other!

They are probably just giving Probert a few extra games as he works his way back in.

Seeing Tom Neild followed by Andy Woolmer - Quite a contrast in styles and interpretation of what is and what is not foul play. Is it a age thing ?

Will be interesting to see how many of the Walsall v Shrewsbury team get a game this week after the Walsall player wasn't sent off for denying a goalscoring opportunity with a handball. Apparently reason given was the couldn't identify who it was. Watch it and see what you think?

Sadly perhaps, I shall not be able to Kettle-watch at Gresty Road this Saturday but I shall look with interest for the post-match report online ;-)
Combination of Crewe Chronicle (online), brief tv highlights and my mates suggest that Trevor Kettle had a satisfactory game. Stevenage were apparently intent on taking no prisoners and one Crewe player 'virtually had his shirt pulled off' in the 1st half without sanction from TK. Penalty to Stevenage looked fair enough although TK was clearly not going to hold off whistling for the penalty to see whether a goal was scored first. I think I could have saved the resulting kick. Stevenage also wasted a lot of time in the 2nd half and this proved to be their undoing as TK added four minutes and Crewe scored with the last kick of the game. The suggestion was that the four minutes had already been played when Crewe scored and the Stevenage management were none-too-pleased with this, but that of course was the minimum and I don't imagine the Crewe fans could have cared less!

What's this obsession with officials being suspended ?

Again, deciding a handball does not deny a goal scoring opportunity is not an error in law, merely a generous interpretation. See plenty of worse errors every week in the Premiership. They still seem to get matches the following week !

When I saw the incident on the highlights I was surprised it wasn't a red card for DOGSO. Of course, if the officials can't identity the offender there probably isn't a lot they can do.

I know I had a dog in the fight, but I was more concerned that a referee failed to recognize a red card offence in plain sight (see Darren Handley thread).

The reason given for not sending the player off was none of the four officials knew who handled.tbe ball not they didn't think it was a sending off offence.

Not asking for them to be rested it just appears to have happened in the past
