Motherwell 0-2 Aberdeen - Don Robertson I think the worst foul in this match was committed by Robertson as Campbell rushed back to deal with an Aberdeen counter and as Robertson changed direction he completely cleaned him out. The conditions were shocking here and Robertson's laid back style and keenness to let the game run was appreciated by the players. Despite his best efforts to let the game flow, this one never really took off and was a total anti-climax as both sides vastly underperformed. Aberdeen were the slightly better team and just about deserved their three points. Robertson barely tested, barely needed his whistle and the one yellow card he did give was slightly obscured for me by an inconsiderate stantion. But again, really love this guy's style of refereeing - allows players to get on with it and only jumps in when he has to and only brings out the cards when he absolutely has to. Excellent - I'd take him every single week! |

Motherwell 3-0 Aberdeen - Kevin Clancy I think I'm going to need a season ticket for Hampden at this rate. Two finals in the same season, first time since 1950/51 for us. This has been a very special year and nobody can deny we thoroughly deserved to beat Aberdeen yesterday who were frankly mince. However not without a bit of controversy as our first goal had a handball in the build up. Tait was running at a fair clip and when the ball bounced up and his arm moved towards it (I do think it was the natural move for his run) but he gained a huge advantage and squared it for Main to tap in. I can see an argument that it was accidental but I think it should have been a foul but Clancy was behind it and both assistant and additional assistant were miles away and probably couldn't reasonably see it - if the additional assistant had been at the other side of the net I reckon he'd have pulled it up. Other than that it was a game played in good spirits and although he had to caution a couple of Aberdeen players for mistimed tackles he was always in complete control and had a very good afternoon's work. |

Motherwell 2-1 Dundee - Nick Walsh The first few times this young ref appeared I thought we were on to an absolute winner but the last couple I've seen him not so much. Seemed overly keen to whistle and really didn't let this game breathe at all. For all that it wasn't a bad game and he didn't do too badly just I don't think he is as good as he was. No really especially controversial moments in this, we got to half time at 1-1 with no cards at all. Second half was delayed in starting as Kasunga ended up on his backside taking the pitch and an array of medical staff had to assist him including the oxygen pipe. His concerned manager was on too whilst the other Dundee players, the MOtherwell team and Nick Walsh and his two assistants were back into warm up mode. Shortly after we did restart came the moment Neil McCann claims he was robbed by a match changing error as Dundee were not awarded a free kick for handball on the halfway line - it may or may not have been. However, it only became match changing because his team then contrived to drag a player back and not mark one of ours at the subsequent free kick. A couple of bookings for Dundee players towards the end for frustrated petulant tackles but nothing much to write home about, I do wish though he would look back at his earlier performances and referee the way he did then as it enhanced games. |

I have said this before and I stick by it, referees change their style once they get a FIFA badge. Nick Walsh is the latest example of a referee feeling the need to change his style to suit his new status. |

Motherwell 1-5 St Johnstone - Gavin Duncan Not dwelling much on this game but since it is the first time I've seen Mr Duncan in a league game I'll provide a brief report. Thought his foul detection was superb, one blip when he gave us a foul in the second half when the St Johnstone player's tackle was low, well timed, from the side, played the ball. Just not a foul for me. His three yellow cards were all fine too for Davidson, Ciftci and Bigirimana. But there is a but, several times he blew a whistle when there was an advantage developing and you could see the attacking players on both sides becoming really frustrated by it. I remember Charlie Richmond saying the toughest thing about breaking into the Premier League in Scotland is suddenly the players expecting you play an advantage whereas lower down they expect a whistle so hopefully experience will allow that bit of his game to develop as he has the makings of a very good referee. |

Partick Thistle 0-1 Motherwell - Bobby Madden Apparently this game was more important to them than us and for all they maybe had more of the game there was never the sense of urgency I'd expect from a team fighting for their lives. Madden had a quiet game, the free kick that led to our goal was soft but not wrong. The yellow cards for Campbell and Bowman for us and Edwards for them all seemed reasonable. There was a bit of a furore after a coming together at the touchline after a Thistle player seemed to land on Bowman - I don't think Madden saw whatever caused it and neither did I. But other than that a quiet and competent performance. |
