Pity in my view that SG2 refs are being used for the top of L1 and L2 clashes (Davies and Simpson). IMO these should be refereed by top performing NG refs. Good to see Mark Brown on his first outing of the season (I believe), perhaps this will coincide with a change of fortunes for the Alex, we certainly need it!

Mark Brown was at Doncaster yesterday. He didn't impress greatly. Too much whistle yet paradoxically he failed to clamp down on Stevenage's time wasting. It was quite amusing how they stopped it the moment they went a goal down.

There was one incident that riled me particularly. Stevenage were making a substitution but either the paperwork hadn't been completed or the sub wasn't ready. They had a corner and were just about to take it when Brown suddenly blew his whistle and allowed the substitution. Over a minute was wasted. Poor refereeing. He should have told the sub and the 4o to wait till the next stoppage.

I saw Andy Haines yesterday at Scunthorpe United V Peterborough United, and I thought he had an good game, yellow cards were awarded when needed, bit lenient with first half added time where he seemed to forget on how to blow his whistle for half time! but overall a decent peformance.

Suprising to see the majority of L1/L2 games have NG Officals as 4o - obviously because of the FA Cup but surely theyd want a week off!

Do Darren Ferguson's teams still waste time to excess? His Peterborough side were experts at it.

Not particularly. I don't suppose you need to do it when you're near the top of the League. I was surprised how unambitious Stevenage were though for a side who had won their last six away games. If you'd offered them 0-0 before the game they'd have said "thanks very much" and got back on the bus.

Good to see Darren Drysdale at Hartlepool v Grimsby, not seen him since 2006 in the LDV. Strange appointment for a "Linconshire" referee (Although I believe he is in RAF there).

Kettle at Bradford Again!
Three cheers!!

It does seem that Kettle appears up at Bradford with alarming regularity.

Enjoy the maverick decisions!

A fourth official and a "lino" travelling over 950 miles for a League One game. Madness.

I don't think the Devon based officials worry about it too much as they kind of know that wherever they go they are going to have a long journey, they can't do the South West based teams week in week out as there just aren't enough of them. Although it does seem a long way for a 4th official.

It's even worse in the National League. There's only Eastleigh and Torquay in that kind of area, so they are constantly ending up with overnight stays as they go to places like Forest Green, Aldershot, Wrexham, and much further afield as well.

These are SG2 officials, and the SG2 Dan Cook is from Portsmouth. There are two other FL assistants called Dan Cook, one from Hampshire and one from Essex, but unless someones has moved I'm not aware of one from Lincs?

Correct, the Dan Cook is, I'm sure, the one from Portsmouth as opposed to the one from Braintree.

Barnstable to Southend and Hull to Southend, both returns = just over 950 miles. Your point is ?

Shrewsbury's run of poor decisions continued. Sending off over turned today. Having watched the replay several times didn't even think it was a foul
