1st for me yesterday in 2000+ games of watching football. Loud penalty appeal by Shrewsbury players at Bolton for handball. Assistant waits, as you would expect, David Webb the Referee makes no signal so the Assistant flags for the penalty as he has a clear view and knows the Referee cannot see it because the Bolton players body will be blocking his view of the clear arm movement to the ball.

Every other time I have seen an Assistant flag for a penalty one of three things have happened, a penalty has been given, a goal has been given or a free kick to the defending side has been given for a foul prior to the penalty incident. Yesterday, nothing.

Other thing that amazed me was only one caution for the Shrewsbury players going totally nuts with the Referee when the ball went out of play.

Is it just Grimsby Fans (Not often a referee has his name sung!) that don't like Mr Joyce. Trying to be objective, but !!!

What about the angry bit?

And to have my post removed is frankly pathetic.

If I went to a match expecting to see Kettle but saw Deadman instead I really wouldn't know what to think.

Least you'd get plenty of maverick and loose cannon decisions guaranteed if either was in the middle!!

If you want to see loose cannon or maverick decisions watch Rochdale's second goal against Shrewsbury.

It certainly was a bizarre and incorrect decision. Davies was clearly offside.

Then again, the game may well have panned out differently had it only been 1-0 at half time, or if your keeper had got his angles right for the first one!

A wretched decision on two counts - the ball is clearly kicked out of the keeper's hands and it then lands at the feet of a Rochdale player who is offside, the goalie being out of it so far as the 'two defender' rule is concerned. I'm really surprised that neither was picked up by Clark or his AR, these being basic errors.

Absolutely, but as I pointed out on our forum, we were robbed at Gay Meadow in September 1997 by a terrible last minute penalty decision by Chris Foy.

Swings, roundabout and long memories 😜

The other give away is the Rochdale players not really celebrating.

Paul Hurst is getting fed up with the phone calls of apology. That is two in a week now.

I'm not denying it should have been disallowed, but I'm confident we would still have won anyway.

We'll also never know how the game would have panned out. Chaos theory and all that.
