My favourite 'golden oldie' Nigel Miller at Crewe on Saturday and I can't make it :argh:

Still, there will be a few years yet to see him, I hear he's aiming to be the first pensioner on the FL list :innocent:

A limited programme and yet with 3 PL refs and 2 SG2 refs on duty. Is it just me or do others think this is rather unfair on those refs normally operating in Divisions 1 and 2?

Why is Nigel Millar travelling well over a 4 Hour journey to Crewe to referee a game? I don't understand this in my opinion. Can anyone shed anyone light on this matter?

Most games are a 'trek' for Nigel Miller given his place of residence. National list referees favour seeing a variety of grounds and travelling us just part of the job, otherwise it would mean the same referees doing the home games of the same clubs (like the premier league!)

I agree with what RCG says, and I recall that Nigel has refereed at Brighton and Cardiff in the recent past, so the four hour journey to Crewe is not particularly long. We had Ross Joyce from nearby Cleveland for a recent league game at Gresty Road. I have commented elsewhere on the decision to send an AR from Hampshire to Crewe for tomorrow night's Checkatrade Trophy game against Chesterfield. Now that is ridiculous

I don't think it helps with the lack of NL referees currently available.

Re.N.Miller's travel time,D.England and B.Huxtable have also long journeys. But this will now be the norm or some clubs will get the same referees, like Bradford CITY[!!!!]and Walsall.
Which club would like Messrs.Joyce and Kettle every other week?Offers to..........
However, regionalisation is alive and well,eg S.Long from Cornwall,to next door.

Then why put Andy Haines as fourth official?

Is there an issue with NL referees in the south. In 8 away games Accrington Stanley will have had Brendan Malone and Brett Huxtable twice.

Yes - you seemingly need to live north of Birmingham to get promoted! Huge north/south divide in terms of numbers so down here, in the FL anyway, you tend to get the same refs 3/4/5 times per season.
Officially a Southern Softie!

According to the official team sheet, Dave Bryan was sent to Coventry instead of Andy Halliday.
