there's no sensors or electronics on a mk2 diesel... use a 17 mm wrench and crack all the injector lines at the head, you will see pulses of fuel squirt out as you crank it, and if you don't, keep cranking until you do, then tighten them.

if there's fuel, timing is right, and you have piston rings... it will run, there's nothing else there. you don't even NEED glow plugs, they just assist with cold starts.

also check the drain valve on the bottom of the fuel filter, there might be excessive water in the bottom.

oh yeah, that thing. the entirety of the engine electrical. it's one wire to the back side of the fuel pump.

so went over ther today started by draining the fuel filter to make sure the fuel was good then cracked the lines on the injectors like you said and got the wife to turn her over......nothing. Checked the wire for the fuel shut off didnt have a voltmeter but my test light lit up when key was on and shut off when key was turned off. Dont know if was getting full 12v but it sounded like thew silinoid was shifting. So my finall attemp was to use a vaccume pump to make sure i was getting fuel to the filter, took off the line that goes from the filter to the pump hooked up vaccumme pump and there was lots of deisil within two or three pumps of the vaccume. So this leads me to belive that the injection pump has '' shit the bed'' as one would say.If i am missing anything let me know cause if she cant get it going im just gonna scrap the thing for her.
