So we figured out the second Kanji, along with about five hundred others ones that came up after. Ughhh.. I'm sick of looking at caligraphy.

MORE importantly:
I don't know how many of you saw Hibiki, but there was a HUGE error in the dialogue for episode 2, and it affects the entire plot of the series.

Basically, at one point, Asumu and his mother run into someone that she knows in the mountains. They have a brief conversation (that had some errors)
And then the man claims that he saw a man that "Reminded me of your husband"
He's talking about Asumu's father. And he's saying that Hibiki looks like him.

That's a WHOLE layer of subtext just GONE from the show with one badly translated line!

That one correction alone makes this entire project worthwhile.

That's how I fee, too. But now I want to make EXTRA sure that I can find transcripts of the Japanese dialogue. I can hear when there's a mistake, or something doesn't sound right. But having it written in front of me makes it so much easier.

Here's the second episode of Hibiki, so far. I finished it for the most part. But now that I'm rewatching it, I'm second guessing some of those translations.

Ugh. I need a TL checker for this series. This is so much more work than I was expecting.

I think that grey could be "shadow" and that white "strenght", but that just guess after their look. Should it be one kanji, or more? I never know this, when I just see it like this.

Shadow is right, thank you!

I don't think the larger one is strength. Without seeing the bottom of it, I can't even tell what the rest of it looks like.

Even when I was very good with Japanese, I was still terrible with Kanji. Ugh.

I wanted to ask, but forgot, was the kanji this?:

猛 fierce; rave; rush; become furious; wildness; strength;

that's what I though at first

Eps 21-30, zipped. There is some classic screenshot material in these episodes for the facebook page. In ep 30, we get Kiriya's horrifying attempt at speaking French, and Hibiki's hilarious plug for the Hibiki movie seamlessly worked into the dialogue(The HK's actually have a helpful onscreen note in parenthesis alerting you to this subtext). Epic stuff, but we all know it's nothing but downhill from this point on.

I feel like... if it were any other director, the staff change wouldn't have been as noticeable. But since it's Inoue, it just sticks out like a sore thumb. All of his usual tropes are present, and the way the characters randomly change personality is mind blowing at times.

But, it's not THAT bad. So many people online make it out to be worthless to even finish the series. That's not true. The writing staff, director, and production staff may have changed, but the talent is there still. And they do their best to sell the crappier scripts. Plus, we got Akira from those episodes, and that's good clean fun.

Kiriya is really the worst thing to happen to the series, though.

Also, thanks again for ripping these. They may be rough, and not make sense at times, but they send up a HUGE red flag when the TVN script is wrong.

So that must be why we never see the face of Asumu's father. It kinda makes sense now...
