Oh god the Magiranger subs made my head hurt. Even the better TVN episodes I'm still making 2-3 mental corrections an episode for oddly worded sentences.

Shinkenger was a NIGHTMARE. It was such an amazing show, and I honestly had NO IDEA what half of the enemies names were because there was so much Japanese on screen at the same time.

And lest we forget "My coffee-tachi-kuns"

Or Banana New Shoe, but that's a whole different can of worms.

I haven't watched a single anime release from TV-N, but I've seen it dozens of time per series.  I can honestly say that without exaggeration.  As a matter of fact, to prove my point, pick 5 numbers between 1 and 40, and I'll show you what I mean.  Any five random number between 1 and 40.

They are.  And like I said, I don't have a problem with TV-N.  It's just not my cup of tea.  But if the liner note was informative, then I wouldn't have a problem.  When the liner note is only there to translate a word that they didn't translate in the dialogue (For example "Obasan means grandmother") That's where I get confused.

Banning people who ask for raws, scripts, or talk about raws and scripts, from their message boards.  They just recently stopped banning people for spoiling episodes in their episode discussion threads, which I can understand.  But you can still get banned for questioning a translation choice, or mentioning raw providers or other sub groups in their forums.  I've been to their forums quite a few times, and seen all of the above.  We actually just had someone comment on our Facebook page that he's so happy that we take the time to respond to fans, unlike "other groups" (TV-N isn't the only group responsible of this.)

(isn't that supposed to be "pidgin" in this particular case?)

You and I know that, but the auto correct on my phone thinks otherwise. Haha.

But seriously, I'm not blindly hating on TV-N. Like I said, I respect their work. I wouldn't know about their problems if I hadn't seen most of their Rider-related releases. But like I said, I can give you 5 good examples of untranslated dialogue in 5 random episodes without even trying. I could probably give you dozens.

Wouldn't any group ban people for such irritating behavior? These are all situations that could be avoided altogether by people having some common sense, and not doing shit that they know full well they shouldn't be doing there. If they didn't ban these people, I'd fear for their sanity. The bottom line is sensibility, and there are major differences between outlawing irritating behavior for the sake of your own sanity and plotting to keep specific people from downloading your stuff because you've been subbing a series for so long that it's got you thinking you're the Century King.

Facebook fans are as lame as they come, because Facebook itself is as lame as it gets, so that's faint praise at best.

Isn't it odd how most of the people who complain about the san/kun/tachi thing are people who already know what they mean? The ratio of those with no Japanese language ability and those with language ability complaining seems comparitively disproportionate, doesn't it? Shouldn't it be the other way around?

It's amazing how when it comes to TVN bashing, everyone is lining up with answers, but when it comes to the Century King, nobody has much to say. Well then, I guess we won't be seeing any soft-subbed RX anytime soon, will we?

Castiel, any update on the BFJ query? Or was I mistaken in my assumption?

Actually, while I would never use the honorifics myself in a sub, my only real complaint is from watching them with friends and my daughter, who don't know what they mean. It takes them out of the story, which is a shame.

And like I said, I like Pal. In all honestly, I don't care if he releases soft subbed versions of his shows. Or TV-N for that matter. I prefer hardsubbed encodes, because they'll play on my external media player. I mean, it can handle MKVs, but the internal subtitle rendering is archaic at best.

I like interacting with fans. Whether it's on the blog, here on the forums, or even on Facebook. So I would never shoot them down or ban somebody. Yeah, spoilers are annoying. But disallowing them seems silly. To me, anyway.

As for soft subbed Black RX... maybe! If I did the show, which is still up in the air right now, I'd definitely release it the same way we're releasing now. mkv, avi, and scripts. Just because I like to be thorough, and I have a soft spot for mkvs. But whether or not it will be a KITsubs project is still up in the air. I'd really like to talk to Sjutton first, because I know that me and him had discussed (briefly) a "Summer Project" once he had more free time, and I want to see where we stand on that. IF that falls through, and I can get someone on board to TL check, then I'd really love to take a crack at Black RX.

And one final note about this whole fansubber critique... in the end, this is all a hobby. If TV-N decided to drop Gokaiger half way through because they hated the show, then that's OK. If G.U.I.S. has a family emergency somewhere along the chain of release and has to drop a show, then so be it. These shows are projects being volunteered by fans who want to share. Maybe there's some heady attitude involved, and maybe some people are too slow, or have delusions of grandeur, but at the end of the day I have nothing but respect for somebody that dedicates their time and energy to somebody else's entertainment.

Castiel, I wasn't making a crack about nobody ever subbing RX(I would never be THAT rude), I was merely making a crack about whichever group that decides to do it not doing softsubs because it was not in line with the Century King's wishes.

That said, I basically hijacked this thread with my lunatic rantings, so I should just drop it now before I turn this forum into another HJU. Considering the miniscule amount of stuff I have actually done, from the look of the posts you'd swear I was Takenoko. And when you consider that I don't even like Black, it's even more asinine of me to even bother in the first place. I apologize for derailing the threads original intent, and will stay out of it(and although I'm still interested in the response on the BFJ matter, regardless of it's outcome I won't pursue that either). Also, I'm rather embarrassed at the sheer volume of my posts(as that was not the original plan), and I seriously need to spend my time more constructively, as this is a "do-ers" forum, and it's members should be as such.

<eMisha>: Well, I want our scripts to be packaged together. I might make .7z's of both, but that'd be it.
<eMisha>: And then I get the typesetting fucked out because people don't have my fonts.
