Just adding to the whole 'Japanese actually downloads fansub! Crazy, I know' thing, I've been watching some Kamen Rider vids on nico several days ago, and I see some bits taken from T-N's sub of Blade and OOO. There's even a full vid to Blade's HBV, using T-N's version. They might've took it from youtube, but it still implies some contents are not as easily accessible even in Japan. |

Also, have you seen DVD retail prices? I'll use Jetman as an example. There are 5 volumes that make up the series, and each clock in at about $116-120. So times that by 5, you would end up paying nearly $600 for one series. I think downloading the series would be the cheaper option indeed. |

Hey Castiel, you're friends with the SHT crew, aren't you? If I am correct in this assumption, could you find out why they put out the .ass scripts for Timeranger, but not for Battle Fever J? In regards to Hibiki, there are English and Portuguese .ass files for basically every epsiode that I got from Japasubs(the first 33 are in English from the TVN translation, and from 34 to the end are in Portuguese). There might be an episode or two missing in there, but I would be willing to rip the timings from my HK DVD set to fill in any gaps(I'm a BIG Hibiki fan). Perhaps this could be your new side project? |

So he won't put up softsubs up because he doesn't want CERTAIN people to download them? While I admit not knowing exactly how expensive R2 DVD's are in relative terms to the average salary of someone living in Japan as compared to here in the west, I also cannot forsee any reason to formulate such a theory in the first place. And once again, if said peoples were to download said files, how would that be a bad thing? I'm beginning to think that he believes himself to be the Century King, bequeathing that these people shall buy the DVDs, and these people shall not. With all this talk of respects being paid, does this mean that whomever puts out RX shall bow to the Century King as well? In regards to Hibiki, I just remembered that TVN actually did a version of episode 1 that was from DVD, and side-by-side, I didn't really notice any variance in quality between the two, but you should check it out for yourselves. They also did that with episode 1 of Blade, and the difference was more pronounced(to my eyes), so perhaps some enterprising scrubber could do Blade... While I fundamentally disagree with TVN not releasing their scripts, much like most true masters of their craft, they need to be indulged their eccentricities as a means to an end, and the aforementioned end is the fact that their output is the high-water mark of quality, consistency, and at least 20 times that of any other fansub group in terms of sheer volume. Not that I'm trying to bash any other groups, but when you look at it factually, most groups only complete one or two series in their lifetime, and TVN has done at least two per year since 2005, in addition to various side projects. Noone has done more for the genre than them, so it seems only fair to cut them some slack as opposed to the other groups that hold onto the scripts for their handful of projects as if they were a license to print money. |

I could finish a show by myself if I wrote it out in broken pigeon english. Ah, I'm kidding. I joke, I joke. But seriously, watching TV-N fansubs with my daughter is an adventure. We're either looking certain words up, or racing for the pause button to read some in-depth liner note. I appreciate what they do, and what they've done for the community, but the clumsy dialogue in their scripts, and their totalitarian attitude towards their fans, is very off-putting. |

I can say in all honesty that I have never encountered any "pigeon english"(isn't that supposed to be "pidgin" in this particular case?), it has all been fluent English in my experience(however if anyone can provide some screenshots to the contrary, it would be much appreciated). That said, I HATE anime, so I am guessing that all of the "kisama-tachi yatsu" and other abnormalities must be confined to their anime releases, which obviously I haven't seen. While I myself have had the same pause-button experience, it doesn't bother me in the slightest, and I rather enjoy the background info(since when is more information a bad thing?). And in actual practice, aren't these issues resolved by ShinkenAnon's scrubs? As for the totalitarian attitude, what's more totalitarian than trying to keep certain people from downloading their stuff? Also, if that were so, how come they haven't said a word to any of the Anons scrubbing their stuff? I'll admit I cannot confirm that, but I think if it had occurred we would have heard about it(if I am wrong about this, please let us know). And with the exception of telling people to stop asking them when things are coming out(which should be common sense to anyone, and is certainly not exclusive to their group), they're just as civil as any other group(don't take my word for it, see for yourself how sedate their forums are). I guarantee that if some Anon scrubbed any other groups stuff(present company excluded, of course), they would unleash their HJU troll army on them, for simply having the audacity to give people more options. If the Century King could produce like TVN perhaps I'd be willing to indulge his eccentricities, but we all know it's not going to go past Black, so hopefully a few months after completion people will regain their senses. |

I haven't watched a single anime release from TV-N, but I've seen it dozens of time per series. I can honestly say that without exaggeration. As a matter of fact, to prove my point, pick 5 numbers between 1 and 40, and I'll show you what I mean. Any five random number between 1 and 40.
They are. And like I said, I don't have a problem with TV-N. It's just not my cup of tea. But if the liner note was informative, then I wouldn't have a problem. When the liner note is only there to translate a word that they didn't translate in the dialogue (For example "Obasan means grandmother") That's where I get confused.
Banning people who ask for raws, scripts, or talk about raws and scripts, from their message boards. They just recently stopped banning people for spoiling episodes in their episode discussion threads, which I can understand. But you can still get banned for questioning a translation choice, or mentioning raw providers or other sub groups in their forums. I've been to their forums quite a few times, and seen all of the above. We actually just had someone comment on our Facebook page that he's so happy that we take the time to respond to fans, unlike "other groups" (TV-N isn't the only group responsible of this.)
You and I know that, but the auto correct on my phone thinks otherwise. Haha. But seriously, I'm not blindly hating on TV-N. Like I said, I respect their work. I wouldn't know about their problems if I hadn't seen most of their Rider-related releases. But like I said, I can give you 5 good examples of untranslated dialogue in 5 random episodes without even trying. I could probably give you dozens. |

Oh god the Magiranger subs made my head hurt. Even the better TVN episodes I'm still making 2-3 mental corrections an episode for oddly worded sentences. |
