I knew you were a guy, I was just playing around. But I've got to admit that when sasword posted that, for an instant I went all "A girl... Oh god, the /u/ manga! It all makes sense!!" |

Well, like I said in the Layzner thread, it's pretty noticable to me. Most subs I've seen always use periods, I've seen a few here and there that didn't use them often and it was kind of weird for awhlie. I agree with what Sardien and DenkouNova brought up, for multiple lines you don't have to use a period for the first few lines that popup, then the other lines popup and end with a period so that way it's easy to see that was all one sentence. Though something like Rey isn't a big deal. It's just a little unnatural to me. , but I can't tell you guys how to sub. In the end if you guys continue to opt out periods it won't really bother me.

I'm with Sardien too. When I see there are no full stops, I assume the sentence hasn't ended. Just personal preference and it comes automatically to me. To my surprise though, I remember a TV station's subtitling guide some years back. They made it a point NOT to put full stops. I just thought, maybe this is something traditional. This is probably where ellipses came in too, to tell the viewer that the sentence hasn't finished yet (ex. Spiderman on Marvel's site). Anyway, I tend to just go with the habits of the last guy down the pipeline (QC or editor or encoder). |
