A quick question, if you don't mind. You see, I have been experimenting with mkvmerge (and later, avidemux when i clean some spaces) for this big and long (not so) surprise project, and I have encountered a problem. You see, i thought i just need to follow these easy steps: - Download and install the windows binary version - Run the program - Add the XviD/Mp3 raw, add the .ass - Click on start muxing - Wait until the progress is done - Voila, you got a nice .mkv with subs. But i can't find my subs. The GUI said the process is all good and jazz, but when i run the .mkv file with Zoom and MPC, i can't find the subs. It's just as good as a raw. Is it because of the XviD? Or there're some settings i need to fix? So, help?

Hmm, you could have forgotten to have the subs on my default, does nothing come up if you try to turn them on in MPC (the control is under Navigate for some reason)? |

That's what i want to think but alas, such is not the case. I've tried with different raws and subs (on this case, Kuuga with .srt) but it's the same as before.

Select the subs file under Tracks and then name it via Track Name under the General track options. That's what I've been doing and it seems to set them to being automatically on also (they seem to be off if you don't name the track, at least for me). Dunno if that helps? |

Update: I tried to encode the video to x264 before muxing them with the subs and.... It's still the same. What went wrong?

You have to point to the mkverge commandline program in the options of mkvmerge GUI. If you wouldn't mind, please post a screenshot showing how everything in mkvmerge looks before you hit "start muxing". |

How maddening! Everything looks right to me, except for the weird directory characters. I've actually seen them when I've used Perfect Dark, too. I guess that shouldn't cause any problems, right? I had an issue with a DVD subtitle ripping program, but I found that using an older version of the program fixed all my problems. Maybe try using an older version of mkvtoolnix? |

I used the 2.2.0 version, but gives me an error instead. But some experiment with the newer version.... and VOILA! IT WORKS! It must be either one of these that make it works: - Putting the two file on the same folder, on the same drive (last time, the sub and the vid is on separate partition) - Naming the sub file so it match the raw - Messing with the 'default' dropdown menu I might pin down what the fuck is causing this stupid problem later, but for now, let me rejoice on the discovery. ![]() IT WORKS! |
