I have a HK boxset of the 2001 Cyborg 009 anime. The quality isn't that good, but the subs are soft and decent. If I knew how to rip the subs (can't be that hard), I could share them. I haven't seen any raws for the 2001 series, though. There's also a legit, licensed dual audio boxset in Australia for the first 25 episodes (for less than 30 bucks, good deal), and I think that would be the best starting point. Then we could use cleaned up HK subs for the rest of the series. Just an idea, I'm sure there's more pressing things in queue for people. For anyone curious, here is a link to the first 25 episodes licensed in Australia: http://www.ezydvd.com.au/item.zml/787972 I don't have the Australian DVDs, only the HK boxset. |

I forgot to add, the first 8 episodes were released here in the US, and a dual audio rip exists for it (I downloaded some time ago, but a quick search at mininova and it's still there). So we could start with 9, redistributing the rip of the first 8 episodes. |

Ripping subs is really easy, you just have to use Subrip (http://zuggy.wz.cz/). Here's the guide I used to learn how to work with it: http://www.doom9.org/subrip.htm

Does that work for just softsubs? I remember messing with some subrip programs awhile back, kind of failed at it. |

I'm a fan of the series, so if you manage to get those subs ripped I wouldn't mind going over them and helping fix the more painful translation mistakes. Let me know if you're interested. |

I take that for softsubs you mean the classic subs you can find on any DVD, the ones you can turn on and off at your pleasure. If that's the case, it works wonders

Okay, I ripped the subs from Disc 1 (and saved the matrix so I could reuse it for all 6 discs): http://www.mediafire.com/?jm0kjtmiygm It covers episodes 1-8. Question: These DVDs have all the episodes on a single track, so this file is the subs for the entire 2 hour and 44 minute "movie". What's the best way to chop them up? 7 VOB files make up all 8 episodes, but whenever I try to play a specific VOB file in VLC, it only shows around 14 minutes of content. |

This is where Avisynth comes in very, very useful. This is useful: http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/avtechbeta/ That covers the basics. If you need anymore help just ask. Rough summary: 1) Rip VOB 2) Make project file with DGIndex 3) Use project file as source for Avisynth file 4) Open Avisynth file in VirtualDubMod 5) Use Avisynth to do what you want to the video (cut into bits, deinterlace, filter etc) 6) Use VDMod to encode |

I do know a little bit about ripping video, but I'm sure your links would be more helpful in that regard. I also know about using doom9 as a reference for that sort of thing. I was referring to chopping up the .srt file I've made into separate files according to the "chapters" (episodes) on the DVD. I wouldn't want to rip these HKDVDs to release episodes, I just want to adapt the subtitles to a better video source. This is an uncompressed bmp illustrating how shitty they look:
