Well, downloading from MU with my connection sucks. Big time. I can only get decent speeds in midnights. So i suppose if that's not a problem, you should be the one downloading it from MU, and retime the script i'll give you as you see fit. My method of work would be like this: - Create a new subs from scratch, rewriting the subtitles from the old rip, and with the timing based on the old rip. - I'm going to compare the softsub of the first episode you give me and the first episode of the old rip to see the time differences. - I'm going to shift the timing to match the softsub you give me, and then give it to you. Basically, what i'm going to give you is a script that should fits the new raw thanks to some approximation. And if it's still off, that's where you come in. Uh, do i make myself clear?

Gotcha, definitely makes sense now, lol. (just wish I hadn't downloaded a few episodes of Zeonic-Corps Gundam releases last night, haha. Think I hit the cap for the day, ugh). |

Alright then. And you shouldn't really worry about that, seeing how i'm still busy at college and probably won't back home till like, 3 or 4 hours from now to work on it. So don't worry, scripts won't be flying at you anytime soon. And I think after i've done scripting the 4th episode, i'm going to retouch the subtitles for 1-3 and then proceed to work on 5 onwards. |

Yeah, definitely no rush here. I was able to download the first episode via /rs/ and the quality is definitely very nice. |

I have an idea for a possible project along these lines. I was browsing /m/ and checked this place out while working on a complete Dancouga torrent. Suddenly I had one of those lightbulb over the head moments. The first half of Dancouga was recently released on blu-ray, and the rest is due out in just over 3 weeks. How about reusing the old subs for this new release? I've been wanting to learn about encoding anyways, and I've always wanted to do something great to help my fellow /m/en. Opinions? |

Can we get the old subs themselves? If so, it'd be very easy, would probably just have to possibly re-time some stuff and encode it. I think EG is doing something along the lines of this with his Blu-Ray Zeta releases, using an old script and encoding them with the new releases. Granted, I wonder if things get a bit more complex working with Blu-Ray rips, I don't know. I'd assume it'll put more pressure on some PC's though. |

With regards to encoding, if the RAWs are already in .avi format you should be able to re-encode them to a smaller filesize with Avidemux without problems. Here's how I do it: 1. Open the .avi file; 2. From the option list on the left, choose "MPEG-4 AVC (x264)" for the video and "AAC" for the audio (if you have CCCP you should already have all the codecs you need, I didn't have to download anything); 3. Click "configure" under "Video"; 4. Under "Encoding Mode", select "Two Pass - Video Size"; 5. Enter a target video size. Note that this only refers to the video portion of the file: I usually put 220 MB as the target video size, and end up with 244 MB total (220 MB for the video + 24 for the audio); 6. Save the file as .avi; 7. Wait for it to be encoded; 8. MUX the subtitles in using mkvmerge. The only downside is that you need quite a bit of HD space, since at first the video is encoded uncompressed, and takes up about 20 GB (!) of space, then it's re-encoded to fit in the target size you specified. If you have the RAWs in .wmv format, as is the case for the Daitarn RAWs, things get a bit more complicated, since I haven't yet been able to re-encode WMVs with avidemux. I use Prism Video Converter (though you can probably do it with Windows Movie Maker) to convert the .wmv to .avi, the follow the process detailed above (since converting gives you a bloated .avi file). |

ManlySubs Current project: Invincible Steel Man Daitarn 3 (Anime). Languages: Italian (first language), English and a bit of French and Spanish (enough to somewhat understand, not enough to translate). | |

I have .ass subs for all 38 eps, Requiem for Victims, and God Bless right now. I don't think God Bless is getting a blu-ray release yet, so that's not an issue. They appear to need some work for sure, but the translations appear to be ok so far. The major problem is that apparently Requiem for Victims has been edited since its original VHS fansub to cut out a huge amount of flashbacks (50 minutes of flashbacks?! Holy God of SEED Destiny!). The blu-ray version will almost certainly be the original uncut version. We can either continue the tradition and cut the crap out, or we may be able to go back to the flashbacked scenes in the show and steal the sub lines from there. I'm not sure which is the best way to go. On another note, I'm also working on getting 2 rars of the raw Dancouga Burn manga and the 4 part Hakunetsu no Shuushou OVA raws that need translated somehow. I guess that can wait until more people have gathered here, as translators are always rare and backlogged. |
