Juventus have reportedly made an approach to sign former Manchester United captain Roy Keane.

The veteran Irishman was dramatically cut loose by The Red Devils on Friday after over 12 glorious years at Old Trafford.

Keane's surprising early exit from United has put a string of Premiership clubs on red alert, with the likes of Bolton, Newcastle, West Brom, Manchester City, Aston Villa, Everton and Middlesbrough all purportedly interested.

The 34-year-old does have an eye on a move to Celtic, although the Scottish giants have suggested they would be unable meet his wage demands.

But Italian champions Juventus are now trying to tempt Keane to Italy to team him up with former sparring partner Patrick Vieira.

Roma and Juventus dismiss Keane link

Any chance of an escape to Italy for free agent Roy Keane appears to have dissolved after Juventus and Roma ruled themselves out of the running to sign the former Manchester United captain.

The 34-year-old midfielder left Old Trafford by mutual consent last Friday and is free to sign for any club.

However, Juventus general director Luciano Moggi, when asked about his club's reported interest in Keane, said: 'The Juventus team is already strong as it is.'

It is especially strong in midfield and while Juve are one of the few clubs that could meet Keane's wage demands, they would find it difficult to give him time on the pitch.

The defending Serie A champions bolstered their squad in the summer with the signing of Frenchman Patrick Vieira, one of Keane's bitter rivals in the English Premiership during his own nine years at Arsenal.

Brazilian Emerson is also one of the midfield lynchpins in their squad.

Yes he's free, and Moggi does like free players but he's also very OLD... The only big italian clubs who likes these old players is, well, AC Milan... :D They've got mid-30 year olds in defence and forward, but they don't have one in midfield... so Keane would fit right into their squad.... B) B) B)

lovely sarcasm dear Mith..keep it up will ya..by the time u're about to finish, u might just eat your own words...anyway, i dunno about u guys..but i smell another
ENGLISH-HOLIER-THAN-THOU bullshit trying to lower down Juve's reputation around the globe...

KEANE=OLD, ALWAYS BEEN A HYPE, TYPICAL BRITISH PLAYER, NOT THAT GOOD,
............TROUBLEMAKER, IRISH-DRUNKEN BUFFON, A FUC%$N HAS BEEN!

THE MAIN REASON THE SPECULATION HAS BEEN SPREAD?
well, mainly to point out that Keane's caliber/problematic reputation in England
is on par with Juve which is mainly to lower down Juve's image as if its just on par with the calibers of English Clubs like Everton, Middlebrough, Wigan etc...if i were a Juve fan...THIS IS A MOCKERY..AND I WILL BE OUTRAGE BY IT!

If we signed Keane we can give our top two central midfielders more of a rest and keep them fresh for the CL. It would be awesome to have emo and vieira rested to play gianni and keane instead.

Also this would annoy those red-devil fans more :D

i'm totally against this idea...
the idea of EPL player to come and played with us does not appeal that much to me!
and yeap i do think he is overrated, bad influence for the management and dressing room, big headed.
Just look what happened to Real?
it all started when they started to buy those English players into their Galacticos..
he's old for god sake.. what the point of hiring some one that old who doesnt even guaranteed to adapt to Italian Football that instant.
Just leave him alone or root somewhere else. He's not welcome here!
