Roma’s fans made it clear Antonio Cassano’s days at the club are numbered and it’s reported Juve reached an agreement for the player today. There are claims that Bianconeri director general Luciano Moggi met with his opposite number Daniele Prade’ in Rome this morning and agreed to exchange Cassano for Adrian Mutu, Giorgio Chiellini and a cash sum. It’s suggested that an official announcement will be made on Friday. The former Bari starlet has rejected terms for a contract extension with the Olimpico outfit and his current deal expires at the end of the season. To prevent him leaving on a free transfer, the Giallorossi hope to sell him off now and at least make back £13m of the £20m they paid for him in 2001. Roma have threatened to leave Cassano on the bench for the entire campaign if he doesn’t “confirm his status as a member of the squad by signing a new contract,” but the final straw came last night. During the team presentation at the Stadio Olimpico, Cassano was roundly insulted by the crowd and only came on for the second half in the 2-0 friendly victory over Arab side Al Ain, with goals from Vincenzo Montella and Rodrigo Taddei. The fans also hurled abuse at the Italian international when he attended teammate Francesco Totti’s wedding earlier this summer and the rapport with the notoriously fiery Roma supporters is at breaking point. it'll be sad if this deal going to happen, as we have to give away chiellini and mutu, two players that i predict will shine at our club. but in the same time, to finally get cassano is awesome. i've been waiting for his arrival and the time may finally come now.if some sacrifices have to be made, then let it be. just hope he wont turn out to be like di vaio. thats all. otherwise, it'll be a huge mistake to let mutu go. |

No one is happy about this. We want to get rid of him...but for a good price...Not have moggi try and make us give up Mancini along with Cassano. So forget Moggi, clearly they didnt want him enough if they only wanted to make a deal with Mancini included. Cassano can rot on the bench and i wont lose any sleep. Maybe he can play in our first couple Coppa Italia games. If we know he isnt going to be with us next season then we will give Cerci and others more time to play. Spalletti will do what he wants. We all know this. Roma’s priority should be Roma, not the Italian NT or nurturing its talent. Cassano’s already threw tantrums when he was being pampered by the club and was guaranteed a starting place no matter what he did, why would he throw one now when no one would care? do you think that Roma don’t want to compromise? do you think they wanna lose on this just to bench Cassano? they’re benching him to pressure him into signing a new contract. Cassano’s passion is himself, where was his passion for football in his no-show performances in Copa Italia? and he’s the only one that can solve this now. I’m not blaming him for the situation but at this point he either signs or be benched, unless we’re forced to field him, regardless of his talent and his world cup chances. By the way, Juve should ponder on your cash since u should remember the funds for the refs and the entire F.A is still not yet payed. <_< |
