I think Vieira has suffered from being in a team that has simply underachieved in Europe for numerous reasons, but at the same time you won't see many Arsenal fans blame Vieira specifically for not showing up for the big games. I think it would be better to judge Vieira after this season, at Juve where the goal is quite clearly European supremacy and where he is in a set up conducive to playing and winning against the big teams, both in Italy and Europe. On the other hand, Vieira had the Dirty World Cup (2002) and Euro 2004 tournaments as well. He was a complete non-entity there and in Euro 2004 he had one good game. Whatever one says about it Nero, his performance in Arsenal doesnot reflect in Europe. If I agree for a second that it was a collective failure on Arsenal's part in Europe then you have to look at the the team's biggest players because usually they are the ones who withstand the pressure. On one hand there are claims that Vieira is the world's best DM/CM and on the other he finds it hard to shine in a midfield that had Pires, Ljunberg & Gilberto/Edu. That's poor. These other players are not ordinary players so to not shine is worth pointing the finger at the biggest one in that midfield as the responsibility lays with him. |

Vieira works best when he has an anchorman playing beside him, just like Edgar Davids was... when Edu or gilberto was beside him in the central midfield, vieira was spectacular. ....and this is where we are not merely celebrating vieira's move to Juve, but we're all excited about the "partnership" he is going to form with emerson in the central midfield... |

i think if anyone who has limited transfer fund will do the same to strenghten the squad, having 2 same good players in every position, thats wat chelsea r doing.but in d same time, they r really making the market "unhealthy" to deal esp when these clubs will wait to who has the highest bid, n in dat sense, it is impossible for average/smaller or even big clubs like milan/arsenal to compete in the market.. but then again, money will not guarantee success but if u hv money, its easier to work for success. the arrival of figo n vieira will definitely make serie A more exciting this season.. |
