This is official news. Here's an excerpt... "I wanted to let you know that on April 15, 2010 Microsoft will discontinue Xbox LIVE service for original Xbox consoles and games, including Xbox 1 games playable on Xbox 360. Our first step in this process will be to turn off auto-renewals for those members who only use Xbox LIVE on a v1 Xbox. While I can’t comment on the specifics, this change will allow us to continue evolving the LIVE service with new features and experiences that fully harness the power of Xbox 360 and the Xbox LIVE community. We did not make this decision lightly, but after careful consideration and review we realize that this decision will allow us unprecedented flexibility for future features." While there still are a few Live games that are played by quite a lot of people on the original Xbox, I'm glad that the Xbox team has finally decided to shut the old girl down. It was kinda like an ex-wife thing. Even though you've moved on, she's still trying to stick around and get something from you. That is until you cut all ties and say "Hasta La Vista, baby". But seriuosly, anyone who doesn't see this as a good thing, obviously hasn't updgraded to a 360. People always speculated that the old Xbox Live platform was the reason for not seeing some more wanted updates to Xbox Live. Such as a Friends list increase, possible clan/group integration, and the ability to sort your friends into groups. And probably somethings we don't even know about, because we simply don't know what the old Live platform was preventing. |
