It's that time of the month again where one of our members has an Xbox 360 that fails on them. This time, it's Vyise. Technology is a great thing, but the gimmicks involved on keeping consoles, phones and computers running smoothly and in "like new" condition is an upkeep that's hard to maintain. For example, I am in the process of sending my iPhone 3GS of two and a half months back to Apple! The silent switch is malfunctioning and the headphone jack doesn't work; but the known hardware failures of the 360 have affected us ALL. So tell us about your hardware failure stories. Can be anything from dropping your console down the stairs, to being at a pivotal point in a game where your 360 freezes and red rings you. Do tell! -Rocky |

I haven't had a computer or gaming console die on me before. Probably the worst thing that has happened to me was like 7 years ago when I had a PS2 I was playing Spyro: Ripto's Rage and I didn't have a memory card so I had to leave it on over night then play again the next day. Well, after about a week of this and practically beating the game, that means not just the story line, but all the extras, my dad was doing some electric work and cut off the power in that part of the house. I cried my eyes out, haha. |

Argh... I typed up a reply and didn't post it, lol. So here goes again. I've personally owned three 360s, two Pros and my current Elite. My two Pros both had errors, but they weren't common ones; first one was the HDD Controller, second was the Video Scaler chip. However, I didn't have them repaired because I voided the warranty to do preventive maintenance (aka dust removal). After the second one failed, I decided to get an Elite. It was a second run Elite (could tell by the box), so it didn't have the latest and greatest hardware. It too failed with an E74 error, which luckily had just become covered by the 3 Year Warranty. So I sent it in, a week later received it back and it's been smooth sailing ever since. I don't really blame companies for failures that only become evident in long term, you can't test product longevity in a lab. Sure you can stress test, but you still can't test a product of age. Dust builds up over years, that dust puts stress on the fans, causing them to operate abnormally. It also loves to collect on anything metal, especially heatsinks. Which, in order to function properly, need to be clean of all debris. And I can personally attest that the 360s heatsinks love to collect dust. I got pictures too. |
