There's always that eye-candy factor that sells games. Some games that look AWESOME play like crap, or some games that look like ass play brilliantly. Some games are just so interactive that it doesn't even matter...

Last I checked, Sonic 2 for Genesis was still the best sonic running....

So that's my question for you this week. Just what do you think is the most important? What of the three (or other point if you can think of one) turns you to look at the game a publisher is trying to sell?

GO!

Well, graphics is certainly a plus. The truth is, when I'm browsing game sites for upcoming titles, I don't really look at the games that don't catch my eye. However it's not really necessary for a game to have good graphics if I know it will be fun, and sometimes a longstanding name will help catch my eye. Perfect example: Metal Slug. Yea, I have the anthology for the Wii and it's one of my all time favs.

So for me, a mix of graphics and gameplay will often make the sale. But one more HUGE factor in my book is multiplayer, as you all should know. I've said it before, I rarely, RARELY buy a game that I can't play with friends. I rented Fallout 3 and that's about the only single player game I have enjoyed.

So then it's 3 things: graphics, gameplay, and multiplayer. And a popular name helps.

Graphics are important to me, so if a game plays great but looks like slop - I'll most likely skip it unless it's an arcade game or something like that.

Gameplay is next - not just having solid controls and the 'fun-factor,' but also what makes the game stand out above the rest... I look for games that aren't just the same old shooter or blah racer - if it's got something inventive and creative, I'll be that much more interested!

MP is not AS big of a dealbreaker for me - there are plenty of times I just don't feel like gaming with other people. But I still want that solid MP experience when I do: coop modes are huge for me. Any vs. mode has to be fun and easily balanced, and not built solely for the purpose of 'the more you play, the more you get' bs - CoD 4 style, for example.
