I'm sure some of you have already seen the article: Sony Calls Out 360 And Wii For Peddling Add-Ons They make valid points, but I'm pretty sure that everyone already knows this. Why would any company lash out like this? It seems to me like they're falling way behind in the console wars and are getting very desperate for sales. What do you guys think about this? |

Well, I read an article on N4G a day or two ago that said some analyst (ha!) presumes that they're going to pull the plug on the PS3 and start a new... That's certainly not going to happen -- this isn't the Xbox 1, afterall. PS3 has a majorly strong lineup for 2009, and despite the price, it has the best graphics and features of any console on the market. The online servers are decent (nowhere near Live's stability), and Home seems to have an impact on people so far ($1,000,000 spent on clothes alone so far); and need I say more than Killzone 2? Best looking game ever made, and the runners up are all on PS3. They could do with a new first party controller though... damn controller feels uncomfortable. |

Wow. Someone else agrees with the controller thing. I can see how its good for menu style games but most games have something that requires more control now. IIRC they haven't really changed the design since PS1. I can understand it with the PS2 but to carry it forward again? I don't think its necessarily desperation. Good companies will always try new tactics to increase sales. If they sell 5% more PS3s than they've succeeded, at least in the short run. I think in another year or two the PS3 might be more even with XBox. The problem that they're going to have is breaking MS's moat on online play since I doubt MS will allow cross console gaming easily. |

The PS3 controller sucks imo - it just has that flimsy feel to it. There is a way to use your 360 controller on the PS3 though. As for the article, I took it at face value: nothing more than Sony trying to toot it's own horn. Having both consoles, personally I find the 360 to be easier to navigate, use, and enjoy. The Playstation has some definite strong points, but it's not all that. |

I still stand behind Microsoft's decision to not include features that people don't need or want. If you need it, then buy the add-on. Perhaps Sony wouldn't be in such a deep hole financially if it didn't include a lot of features that most probably don't use. As for the PS3 having the better looking games, I put that more towards the developers will than the system itself. Most of the phenominal looking games on the PS3 have been in development for a longer time than most 360 games. And it's usually the studios only game in the works, when an entire studio focuses on a single project, you can get great results. I've always looked at multiplatform games as being the real showcase of how consoles do. No doubt the PS3 has some great games, all of which are exclusives, and there's still only a couple handfulls. The 360 still has the much larger library of quality games, and I don't think it's going to lose it anytime soon. |

If I had the extra cash, I'd buy a PS3. There's a lot of games on there I'd love to play, obviously they're exclusive. I'd also buy a Wii, I like variety. I don't know about graphics, a lot of the time they're better on the PS3, and then others it's 360. Bioshock had a side by side comparison and they looked REALLY close graphically. I just think the lighting looked a little better on the 360. |

Bioshock probably is the best game for comparison out of any multiplatform games, though GTA IV would be another. They completed the 360 and PC versions of Bioshock first, which was released in August of '07. Then they started work on the PS3 version, it got a full year of development just to port it, when it released in October of '08. If the developers put the time into it, the PS3 versions can run just as good and look nearly identical. The 360 usually wins out a tad when it comes to graphics, thanks to it's shared memory and better GPU. But that just shows that it's ultimately the developers that decide. |

I bought my wife Oblivion along with the PS3 for her birthday, and (after buying an HDMI cable) I compared them almost side-by-side by having them both on at the same time, at the same "place" in the game & switched my HDTV source back & forth - honestly, the only difference was the lighting, and it was barely a noticeable difference. It didn't make either one look any better - just slightly different. That's the thing I see with the PS3 also: they tout the ABILITY for games to look so much better than anything ever seen, but since it seems to take twice as long to come out with them, by the time they actually do hit the shelves - any advantage they may have had in graphics seems to be lost. |

This is one of my biggest gripes with Sony. When I bought my PS-3 I had to buy an HDMI cable because it only came with RCA cables, so it was not Hi-Def out of the box. My Xbox 360 came with component cables. For my PS-3 I had to buy a remote control because of the bluetooth. My Xbox 360 came with a remote. I had to buy a headset (2 actually because a recommended bluetooth didn't work) for my PS-3. My xbox 360 had a headset in the box. The PS-3 does have Wi-fi bilut in while the Xbox 360 does not. However as shaky as the PS-3 is hard wired I'd be surprised if the Wi-Fi worked well. The last "advantage" of the free PSN. Well PSN is the biggest example of you get you pay for. Downloads take forever, the on-line interface is lousy and the servers often can't handle any kind of load. Sony should focus on delivering more great games and streamlining their on-line experience. |
