I figure that games this past year have been extremely well thought out. 2007 was the era of digital distribution, starting gamers on the methods of downloading full games such as Fable, GTA: San Andraes and Burnout Paradise (PSN). The thought that one day, that shelf over there might contain nothing but specks of dust and past generation games, is still starting to sink in. But beyond 2008's year of plastic peripherals and the parsect wide library of shooters that came out in the fall, it was still a great year that most gamers around the world seemed to enjoy. The announcments for 2009 alone were enough to make this past year in gaming one of the best yet. Though, focusing on the past 365 days of our delinquent gaming sessions I can safely say that there are many titles that came out in 2008 that made me want to throw the controller across the room. The list below is what I find to be the most disappointing games of 2008, and why. I hope you comment freely, after reading it -- and of course, I wish everybody a happy New Year on behalf of InfinityGaming! Too Human -- Dennis Dyack and his team over at Silicon Knights put together an amazing game called Too Human. It came out in early Fall and wasn't received by the press very well, though most gamers that gave it a chance really seemed to like the new game mechanics. For me personally, I didn't exactly find the game itself frustrating (with the exception of the unskippable death sequence, and the onslaught barrage of continuous "KO" projectiles by those god damn trolls), but rather the way that the game was received. For more info on just how I felt, feel free to [urll=http://s8.zetaboards.com/infinitygaming/topic/8015871/1/#new]click here[/url] to see my opinion when the game shipped. Read that, and you'll get what I mean. Need for Speed: Undercover -- EA BlackBox, now downsized and cut into a new studio under Electronic Arts, should have taken another year off of Need for Speed. It seems that publishers are milking their franchises too much. Call of Duty, Guitar Hero, Rock Band, Need for Speed, and many others are just making too many debuts per year. The thing that bugs me the most about NFSUC is that it's just unfinished. There's glitches, bugs and the framerate puts my computer running Crysis on a pedestal. There's no way in hell that BlackBox was allowed to skip this holiday season, which is why I think that EA pushed them into an early release date. Having to Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway -- WWII. I love the time period, and I find it shocking that so many different games have the way to pull me into the world of the 1940's war torn Europe. The catch with BiA:HH is that it was supposed to come out in 2006. The game was strung on for far too long, and when it came out it was just another shooter. The game itself was fairly deep; and the emotional dramtic story of Matt Baker and his squad of airborne didn't go unhindered, but the controls were not very user friendly, and the gameplay was just a little too repetitive. I would say that if BiA were finished in 2007, it's impact would have seriously made a dent in the book of last year's gems. But in the time of development, it's just came up too short and too generic for today's titles. Mirror's Edge -- Faith and her band of runners made an excellent debt of a new style of first person shooter: they took away the shooter. Hauling major ass and jumping across rooftops was just too cool to pass up, but when you're FORCED into a combat situation, it really degrades from the experience and postpones you from gaining that special momentum that makes you feel like you're there, and experiencing the vertigo. Other than the combat, the free running is very special in it's way of uniquely stating that if you suck, you will die. Swan diving over a rooftop and latching yourself onto a sewer drain across the way is harder than it looks, and falling to your death will happen more times in this game than ever. The precision of each jump has to be perfect; but the thing is that when you THINK that your jump is perfect, you'll just hit the wall right beside the pole, and fall down to the ground. It's something that degrades from the experience, perhaps not as much as the combat, but it doesn't help. I could go on for a few more, but this post is just getting really lengthy. I would ask anyone to continue on for me! Any games that you found frustrating, disappointing or just flat out "suck-ass", just post them here! Cheers, and again, happy new year. -Rocky2000 |

Fable 2: Mkay, Fable is tied wih The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind for being my favorite RPG of all time. Fable 2, nooo way. First, the effed up on the menus. Slow and annoying to navigate. Second, they messed up the map system. It was perfect in Fable, but for whatever flippin' reason they had to CHANGE it. The curse of the sequels, fixing things that aren't broke. Third, the co-op was lame. Yes, they had to limit it for obvious reasons, but can't my..."henchman" atleast look like my actualy character? Come on.. Fourth, replay value. To me, Fable had way more replay value than Fable 2. Don't ask me why, I'm not sure why I feel this way. I guess I just overall enjoyed Fable more. Fifth, the dog..very great idea. Also very freakin' annoying. I'm busy chasing some bandits around during a quest and my dog barks..now I feel friggin' obligated to see what he wants. I could go on, but I'm good. Umm other than that, everything was pretty good. I like CoD: W@W better than CoD 4, as frustrating as they both can be, but W@W does have about 43582 more glitches..Gears 2 had a truely epic campaign, but the multi-player fails. Between the matchmaking and the point-blank shotgun shots not doing any damage. |

One game INSTANTLY comes to mind as the biggest letdown for me - no, it's not CoD4 or WaW, it's not any of the slew of games I bought this year and only played for five minutes... Hands down, it's Frontlines: Fuel of War. I was hyped for this game going back from the first time I heard about it, just thinking of huge battles with tons of players and vehicles - tanks, helicopters and jets, dammit! I mean how effn' cool is that gonna be!? Then I got it (day one, going against my usual instincts), and, well... Graphics sucked. Yeah, yeah - whatever - "you can't expect a game that holds tons of players to be visually detailed." Bite it. The game looked like trash, that could've looked good on my computer from 2000 - but for a 360 game? No way. Then there's the FOUR people to a squad? WTF - get outta here! I'm sure now it's different since you can have your own private party, but this was bullshit, and probably the MAIN reason this game was a letdown for me. I want to play with friends, not three other people who join a squad then don't say a word until they're bitching about how much everyone else sucked right before they switch sides. Which brings me to... Switching sides! This is absolutely lame. "Oh, we're losing, I'm gonna switch to the winning side." F'er... Before you know it, there's two of you vs. ALL of them. Of course, the hit detection was like throwing marbles at long range, and like throwing helium-filled baloons at close range. I don't care what anyone says, it was a guess with every trigger pull. All in all, the sp was okay, and I played it for a bit. Honestly, I really tried to like the MP, but the 'fun' parts were few and far inbetween, taking into account all the freezing, getting knocked out of lobbies (in-game, of course), not being able to set up a squad with friends beforehand (much less just join a friend's game in the middle of it), the lame spawning problems, the auto turret camping... There's more - much more - but just thinking of this game again has pissed me off. |

I think my biggest letdown of the year is no Free Play mode in Saint's Row 2. Oh, and that I didn't get my "Complete all Story Missions in Co-op" achievement, which was worth 100 points... Yep, that was the worst. |
