Music in games is a passion of mine. Soundtracks like Halo's, Prince of Persia, Half-Life: Orange Box and Force Unleashed all have exceptional musical scores, but sometimes gamers like to get into the mood (especially in multiplayer, or screw around games like GTA or Saints Row), or groove if you will, by playing their own tunes using the handy custom soundtrack features of the Xbox 360 and PS3. I'm more of a person of stock music, unless it's terrible, or if it's a simple arcade game like bejeweled or something. I recently played Far Cry 2 and turned OFF the music, just to get more into the ambience of the game (wild Africa!), and that was cool too... but what about you? What do you listen to when you game? -Rocky PS: Check out the game of the year contest by clicking the banner above the forum! |

I'm a pretty big fan of the stock music in games. I think the game music that gets me pumped the most is Geo Wars hahaha. The techno stuff gets my heart rate going =p The only game I really play my own music to is Forza 2. For some reason, they don't have a soundtrack playing during the actual races, only in the menus, so I play my own stuff. |

I usually play the music in the game. With the nice surrond sound I have, the music in the game usually compliments the action. |

in single player, ill just listen to the game music, but if im in multiplayer, ill listen to some of my favorite music as long as im not in a party that is. i listen to a lot of unsigned bands found on purevolume.com but im also a big fan of classic rock and some of my favorite bands are Dave Matthews Band, Red jumpsuit Apparatus, Scary Kids Scaring Kids, Fall of Troy, etc. etc. |

stock music 80% of the time I'm gaming. I usually prefer the game music more because its paced with things happening in the game. If the music suddenly stops you know something is going on. Or like the countdown in Geo Wars - deadline, if its not there it feels off. The other 20% is just from not remembering to change it going from inactive music playing mode to game mode. |

Really depends on the game for me. If it's a slower paced, open worlded game, I'll generally play my own music, or a racing game. But if it's a faster paced game, or one that has a great score, I'll listen to the game music. I have one execption, and that's when playing multiplayer. The only multiplayer games I'll play music with are racing games, shooters and the like need more attention, and music just throws me off. |

I listen to the game's music in single-player/co-op, and my compilation of music during multi-player. And yea, it depends on the game. I have a saved Playlist on my 360 for shooter which is a mixture of Basshunter/Techno, Slipknot, Linkin Park, and Sixx A.M. Come to think of it 90% of my games are shooters..except the GH's which have their own music, lol. |

I don't believe Guitar Hero or Rock Band will allow a custom soundtrack to be played while you're playing. I think it will play during the menu's, but once it comes time to shred, it pauses it. |

Actually, if there's an option for it - I turn OFF the music in games. I dunno why, I just like hearing the roar of the engine or the shooting & explosions over the sound of some music score or song. Exceptions are games like Oblivion IV and Fable 2, of course. Oblvion's soundtrack was just awesome. Think I'm gonna play some Oblivion now!

Speaking of music in games, I think all of you know how much I love Geometry Wars. A few weeks ago, the makers (Bizzarre Creations) got the music people (Audio Antics) to make and release a megamix - a 13 minute song featuring songs from the entire series. I forgot to post it here, so any other fans of the music can bask in its greatness. At the bottom of this page! I listen to it instead of the Geo Wars music sometimes, haha! |

The GeoWars music is totally awesome. That's one game that I can play for hours and not get tired of, despite it's repetitive nature. Love it. |
