If this isn't a new Halo 3 campaign, then I don't know what it is.... The weird teaser trailer's got me sold, although I couldn't find it anywhere online that doesn't have a big fat watermark on it; check it out on the Xbox Live Marketplace and let us know what you think. Prepare to drop. After checking out the video, post your thoughts below.[/url] |

I doubt it's anything to do with the Halo 3 campaign. Bungie said so themselves on IGN and on their official website that they aren't doing anything to the campaign. I'm thinking it's going to be a new game. Or maybe a new multiplayer map or something. |

And yet, Saucey, in the info for the video on the Marketplace it says; "High action and deep mystery await players in this new Halo 3 campaign experience. Prepare to drop.". Sounds like something additional to the campaign, what that is, only Bungie and MGS know. |

It's the black and blue planet at the end of the Legendary ending! I KNOW IT! I hope..it better be...or else..(readies nuclear warhead and targets Bungie headquarters). Nahh I'd never do that. Too much awesome Halo swag in that place!

It does seem that this is introducing something additional to the campaign and multiplayer. I was checking my achievements for Halo 3 and noticed there is now a total of 1,750 GS possible for the game. And upon further analysis of the achievements introduced by Title Update 2, there are clearly labeled achievements for skulls found on new levels. And ones for doing certain actions in multiplayer on "Mythic" maps. So, it does look like Bungie does in fact have an expansion planned for Halo 3. NOTE: I also moved this topic to the Halo 3 category. |

Perhaps it's a campaign where you take the role of Johnson? I know I'd play it.... |

Maybe you play the role of a lost grunt that is found and cared for by MC and they go on adventures in a magical forest. I REFUSE to play Johnson... |

Yep, Fall 2009. Still, I wonder if those achievements are for Recon, or something else? That just seems to far away to already have the achievements viewable. |

If you're talking about the extra achievements that recently became available for Halo 3, they're not for Recon. I have friends that already have all of them unlocked lol. |

That's impossible Saucey. Title Update 2 revealed 29 new achievements for Halo 3. Only 10 of those 29 are currently achieveable. The other 19 require maps that aren't even revealed (other than Assembly), so there's no way they can have them. |

Ok, so I didn't actually check lol. One of my friends has a few of them unlocked, but I noticed this one: Defend This: On a Legendary map, get a flag melee kill during any ranked or social match. A bunch of others on on a "Legendary map", so I assume they're also unlockable. He has 6 of the new achievements unlocked, 4 of the others that I can tell would make up the 10 you're talking about. If Legendary is a map pack, then mythic should be too, which means another 8 are unlockable when that pack is out... and I'm gonna go ahead and assume that Citadel, Longshore, etc., are names of maps. Yea, I don't think the achievements are for Recon =p |

The first map pack was named Heroic, which included Rats Nest, Standoff, and Foundry. The second pack, Legendary, contained Blackout, Ghost Town and Avalanche. And, as you said, going by those achievements, the next map pack "Mythic" will contain Assembly (which was shown and played at PAX '08), Citadel and Longshore. The only thing that's throwing me off about the "Mythic" maps, is that there are Skull achievements for them. Which is why some believe/d the "Prepare to Drop" teaser was tied to the next map pack. But now, with the revealing of Recon, it's still a mystery. |

Yea but why would they put Recon achievements in the same list as the Halo 3 achievements? Unless Recon is a downloadable expansion to H3, I can't make sense of it. |

Possibly because the game is dubbed Halo "3": Recon. It's already said to be a stand alone retail game. It pretty much is an expansion, I'm sure they called it Halo "3" just so people got the sense it was still Halo and would be played like Halo, just not as MC. Plus, a whole addition to the campaign would be pretty big as DLC. |

The main reason it's called "Halo 3: Recon" is because it still uses the same engine, gameplay mechanics, and perspective as Halo 3. The Mythic maps will be included in Recon, but will also be avialble for Halo 3, which is why Halo 3 has those achievements. Recon will be it's own standalone retail game, with it's own 1000 Gamerscore Points. It is not planned to be a downloadable game, retail only. However, since it is an expansion, it shouldn't be full retail price. Now, the multiplayer for Recon is no different than Halo 3's. In fact, both Halo 3 and Recon can play with each other (at least that's my understanding). You'll still play as a Spartan/Elite, and have all the same features; Saved Films, Forge, and Matchmaking. |
