Dennis Dyack

"But what we're also seeing is for the people who don't like it, generally just don't get it. And it's because we've created something so innovative and different," he says. "It's ironic, it just shows that human nature of if you don't understand something, you immediately attack it. It's pretty interesting in that regard."

Too Human came out today. A game that's been in the making for over a decade has finally released to Xbox 360, and with the corrupted Metacritic of just over 60%, Too Human is not being received very well. Several journalists are calling Too Human lackluster, and average. I can't say that I LOVE it to death, mainly because I haven't played anything but the demo. But if gamers around the globe are bashing Too Human, they should seriously revert to the quote above by one of the main men at Silicon, Dennis Dyack. There's every chance in the world that Too Human is backed by myself, mainly because of it's new roots. It's not an action game, it's not an RPG --- it's an entirely new gaming experience, and I have a damned good feeling that it will be one to remember.

Because gamers are not giving this game a chance, and jumping to conclusions, I feel that I'm allowed to do the exact same thing, but with praise to the game. What they've put together and released on a disc is amazing, it's something that I personally feel is a great purchase and play through. It's the game of the year, no exceptions.

See, that's jumping to conclusions. The same feeling that you just felt (realizing bullcrap) is the same way that I feel towards these stereotypical negligent gamers that believe they're the center of the universe. Everything revolves around these little runts who review technology as pieces of garbage, as they leave out the fact that they've only played the damned game for twenty minutes. They leave out the teensee little case that they're not even old enough to legally play the game without parental consent.

Dennis Dyack was banned from NeoGAF forums earlier today, out of spite for his previous deal to one of their posts. If you haven't listened to Dyack's interview with the 1up Yours crew, then you're missing out on one of the most interesting interviews ever recorded. In regards to the NeoGAF deal that you may be aware of, there's absolutely every right in Dyack's power to make a stand against such filth on the internet. Here's what he has to say about the issue,

Dennis Dyack, creator of Too Human
regarding NeoGaf[/quote

"I went through all of this for two reasons.... If you're going to look at the NeoGAF forum as a non-profit organization, if it does not reform itself, it's eventually going to crumble. There's going to be a point where they step over the line where someone's going to shut them down. That would be a loss for everyone.... The question I have to ask the moderators of GAF: Are you going to follow your own rules? With people making GIFs of myself that are, I would say, attacking me.... Why haven't 180 people been banned now? If I wanted to move in and shut that place down, do I have grounds under their own forum policy?"

Dyack concludes, "NeoGAF and other forums like this that don't have good management are not only hurting society and hurting the videogame industry, they're in decline, and they need to reform quickly before people stop listening to them.... If the moderators and people who run the site think they aren't doing any damage, they are sorely mistaken, and it's only a matter of time before something bad happens."

I don't know how you guys are going to take that....Through the pipeline, he's somewhat insulting InfinityGaming when it comes to forums, and their content / members. I've got no problem with him saying this because I'm confident that if he, or anyone else were to register here, that we'd give them the best respect that we have to offer. That's how we roll, what can I say. It's hard believing that gamers out there are taking a stand against a man that they don't know, creating petitions to take Too Human off shelves because of an opinion that hasn't even been fully put to the test for more than twenty four hours.

This is no insult to our members, whatsoever -- everyone here is laid back and mature, which is what makes this place one of the best places to talk about games without running into poo being flung. It's times like this that despite the lackluster activity, it's a great place to be an admin. So in other words, I'd just like to thank everyone for keeping the peace around here.... I mind you, that's only like five or six of us, hehe. Thanks though -- it means a lot.

If you have comments, this is the place to post them!

See you on the flip side.

I don't think he was attacking forums in general. But, like he said, forums with poor management that don't follow their own rules. I think one reason Infinity Gaming is a great forum is because we do have great management. I think, if IG was a larger more populated forum, we'd be the kind of forum that Dyack would support.

I think people have just been spoiled in the recent year or so. Many people think that if any new game doesn't play, look, sound and feel like those, it's not worthy. And yet, those exact people are usually the ones who purchase Madden year after year, when it's just the same game reskinned (I know they add new features and whatnot, but it's still the same game). They praise high quality, yet give in to mediocrity when it's something they're used to.

And the worst thing about all this is that a lot of reviewers are this very way. So many people turn to somebody else when they don't understand something. And when the person the turn to doesn't understand, it just creates a snowball effect of hate on a product. The only reason I go to review sites and read them is usually to see if the reviewer really enjoys the game or despises it. Because, even if you enjoy a game, you can still give it a low score. Which I think is a more truthful score. If you give a game a bad score simply because of influence of press ,et cetera, then you shouldn't be reviewing the game.

The main thing is that people shouldn't turn to others for advice on something as subjective and opinionated as video games. If you try the game and it's not your cup of tea, fair enough, but that doesn't give you the right to say it's a bad game. So, to all members of Infinity Gaming and beyond, if you're unsure about a game, give it a rent. But please, don't let your thoughts influence others.

Well, the thing is with games like Madden, it's a game about football. You can't be innovative about football without making it unrealistic so the reason they buy it year after year is so they get better features/graphics. So buying it is understandable, even though I hate sports games.

I agree about people having their opinions influenced by others and it is ruining the way people review today. We need reviews that sit down, play a game for a few hours, and analyze its every aspect; how is it different, does it play well, what's its replay value, are you getting what you paid for, etc. You can dislike a game but give it good rating because it has the qualities above. It just may not be the type of game you enjoy. But unfortunately we're running out of those kind of reviewers so we're forced to rent games if we're unsure about whether or not to buy it, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Its just pathetic that reviewers are getting the way they are.

Anyways, I haven't played this game and don't plan on buying it simply because it's not my type of game. Now that's not to say that this game is extremely innovative and will sell well and all of that jazz. I really hope it does, because it looks to be something new that gamers have been waiting for. ;)

I know Madden '09 has improved the series, but how long has it taken EA/Tiburon to do so? Up until '09 wasn't Madden either the same as before or worse for several years? Are any of the things the added to '09 innovative, is there anything about it that explores a new way to play football?

With Too Human, Silicon Knights has implemented a unique combat system to the Action/RPG Genre. While it may not be perfect, the system does work. They proved that it's possible to break the norm. And because it's not the norm, people are bashing it. And because of this, it's possible that MGS might not support the second, let alone third, installment.

Hey, I've been buying Madden every year since 2001.

In all fairness to NeoGAF, from the stuff I've read, there are plenty of intelligent people over there along with those types that hate evrything while living in Mom's basement. The Dyack stuff really took a life of its own and NeoGaf adding fuel to it all when they made a topic publicly banning Dyack from the site.

Great blog, Rocky!!!! :)

Yea, that's what I'm saying. But people don't want them to explore new boundaries, then it won't be realistic football. That's why EA is limited when making the new ones. If they want something different, they should play Blitz.

It's pretty stupid that people aren't giving it a chance. We'll wait and see what happens, hopefully it gets some better reviews, from people that actually play it through and through.

Excellent blog Rocky.

A big part of why there is this negative bandwagoning going on with Too Human is because that's what the "Cool Jaded Cynical" Gamer does. They post on forums how game X sucks or is broken or is popular trash that "real" gamers wouldn't play. Actually playing the game is irrelevent. It's the attitude that counts.

I've played the Retail release version of Too Human for over 6 hours already and I'm only still in the second level. Personally I love the game but that's subjective. The facts are it is not broken, the targeting system works once you learn how to use it, there are multiple camera options and while I prefer the near view all of the other choices work as well. The controls are different and from time to time I'll still swing a weapon thinking I'm moving the camera, however once adjusted to the controls they work well and give some cool fighting skills. The Co-Op works very well with no lag.

It's not a perfect game by any means but it most certainly is not a broken game. If you liked the demo you'll like the game.
