Next installment to be set in a "new military theater", reveals Activision boss
The next Call of Duty game may not delve back into familiar WWII territory after all, as Activision CEO Mike Griffith reveals that the fifth game will take the series to a "new military theater".

Despite rumors and strong reactions that the series would be returning to the over-used WWII era, Griffith revealed: "We'll bring the intensity of the recent Call of Duty: Modern Warfare title to a new military theater to engage our significantly larger user base which nearly doubled last year as new users came into the franchise," according to Gamespot.

Another modern setting would get our vote (we're bored of those crappy 1940s guns and sluggish propeller-powered planes)."

Sweet. Thoughts? I'll bet you it'll be futuristic, like BF2142, but focused on singleplayer.... What else can they do? (C'mon, bald space marine!)

I'd like to see it based in Vietnam, I've only played two games that used it as it's setting; Battlefield: Vietnam and Conflict: Vietnam. Both were really good games, and I think Vietnam offers a large sandbox of vehicals and weapons that can be used.

I played one of those (can't recall which one) and it was good, but I wouldn't buy CoD5 if it did that. The goal should be to move forward, not backward in time - like Rock said, a 2142 type setting with a fictional enemy would be the way to go.

Although I like WWII-era games, I can see how there's no going back to it. But did I read that right - "Activision?" So no Treyarch? I was so disappointed with three's sp that I was gonna skip #5 if Treyarch did it.

Activision's the Publisher, they have control over the series. CoD 5 will most likely be developed by Treyarch, which is why I really haven't put much thought into it. The reason I said Vietnam was for this reason, I don't want Treyarch to take CoD into the future. If that's to be done it needs to happen by Infinity Ward.

The only shooters that were set in the past that were able to get my attention were the Medal of Honors. I couldn't really stick to the WW2 Call of Duty games. I'd love to see a futuristic one.

I find it a little odd that you weren't into either Call of Duty, or Call of Duy 2. Mainly because Infinity Ward was founded by the original Medal of Honor developers.

I still play MoH Airbourne from time to time -- love that game to death. It actually added something to the WWII genre, which is why I really like it; plus my grandpa was in the airborne, so it's only a genetic appeal, lol.

But as for WWII being over, I can safely say that Brothers in Arms Hell's Highway will be the best finish line EVER. Can't wait for that one.

But other than that, I would strongly agree with Spartan. A gutsy move to the future can only be pulled off [properly] by Infinity Ward. If Treyarch does what they did to CoD3, and applies it to the next game in the franchise, I might just have to skip it. The multiplayer was alright, but god damn those glitches (which would never make it into an IW game, I might add) were all too constant. And the invisible walls in SP made it impossible for me to beat on Vet, which is something I'm still proud of achieving in CoD2.

I hope CoD5 is appealing, I really do.

COD3 was my least favorite of the series, so I'm holding no hope for 5. COD4 will keep me busy until 6.

Well, I never really got to play the game in-depth. Just screwed around in Single Player at a friend's house occasionally and it didn't catch my attention is all.

What IW isn't gonna do the next CoD? That makes me kinda want to wait and see how it is now instead of a sure buy.
