LucasArts released a new video highlighting the three simulation engines that the highly anticipated SW:FU will be using; 1) Havok, the most popular and well known physics engine. 2) Euphoria, a technology developed by Natural Motions, is a biomechanical & behavioral AI simulator, and finally 3) DMM (Digital Molecular Matter), allows materials to react to pressure and damage they way they would in real-life. Enjoy! Edited by SpartanZypher, May 29 2008, 11:47 PM.

I hope it's done right. I'll be buying this game mainly because of the franchise. If it's anything like Academy or Outcast, it will be brilliant! |

Looks like it's further away that I thought. The date of release for all systems is slated for September! Link to Kotaku. I thought it was heading out in like.... May, but I'd rather they perfect the game as best they could. Looks like this Fall is going to be another one of those dense gaming holidays. YES. |

I thought it had been pushed back into '09, much like I thought Bad Company and Mercenaries 2 were. But I think those are both slated for August. |

This seems the norm - I never expect a game to come out when they say it will be. I only believe it's out when I see it on the shelves. |

Just remember there's been far more bad Star Wars games than good, with all of them hyped as the one that'll be our dream SW game. I want this to be good and I saw gameplay during....what's it called now....Gametrailers TV? Anyway, the show had gameplay for a level running while talking to Lucasart and while the graphics are good, the animations were pretty stiff and looked goofy. Going purely by that one level and the impression it gave, It looks more like a shallow rental that should be fun enough to go through once...but not really a buy. Or at least, I went from buy to rent after seeing that. There wasn't much going on other than flinging stuff around. And when pressed for details of gameplay all the guy would keep saying is stuff like "Isn't it cool throwing these people around?" Yeah, sure. It is cool. Just so long as it isn't ONLY that. |

It looks like you're not going to have people with you like in KotoR or Mass Effect so hopefully they won't use the freeze and select kill method combat style. I'd rather it just be if I encounter an enemy I can run up and do some hack and slash combos or something. Not sure whether this is a buy or rent for me. I'll have to wait a bit longer until I decide that. I'm leaning towards buy just because I always enjoy the Star Wars game's story lines. I played KotoR through around 5 times! |

Force Unleashed isn't an RPG like KotoR was, it's a pure action game from the looks of it. There might be some RPG aspects, but not to the extent of KotoR. |

Yeah, I saw some orbs getting sucked into Vader on some of the scenes. I would imagine that you can probably upgrade some of your force powers; perhaps unlock new combos or finishing moves. Can't wait. This is a hands down buy game for me. I love the Star Wars games more than the movies, so there's no way around this one for me. Everything down to the story (see trailer above) to the characters, even the fact that I'm not playing on the light side really gets me going... can't wait. Spoiler: click to toggle

The story is about as shallow as I fear the gameplay will be. I like hack and slash, but is it going to have gameplay as deep as Ninja Gaiden or will it be more Devil May Cry? But those two levels of quality aren't my fear. My fear is it's more Gaunlet. I don't know. I want it to be a good Star Wars game, I love Star Wars....but the more actual in game shots I see on shows or in trailers.....I smell an overhyped rental. Just a feeling though. I'd love them to prove me wrong and deliver something more than a Episode 3 (the game) with better graphics. |

There's a really great article about the Force Unleashed over at GiantBomb.com (ex-Gamespot's Jeff Gerstmann, Ryan Davis, Brad Shoemaker and Vinny run it), by Shoemaker -- I'd check it out; it's a good read:

There's a new FORCE POWER DEMO over at Gametrailers. It's fairly short -- just over a minute, but it shows some cool gameplay. Looks like FU is going to be a little more hack and slash than I thought... Eh. Still a buy :D! |

I've never really percieved SW:FU as anything but a hack and slash. There's a little RPG elements in the powers, combos, and lightsaber but it's always been a hack and slash at it's core. |

Yeah, I'd still prefer a pure sequel to the Jedi Outcast & Academy games.... Those were a little more tactical, but I don't really think that you'd be able to pull off force powers of this magnitude using the Quake engine, lol. I'm still in it all the way -- I'm buying this game when it comes out, no doubt. It'll tie me over until Academy hits the Originals Program (one day!). |
