This is the first part of this Review in progress, I'll update it as a play through and in the end will give a full review. Introduction. As you start up Two Worlds your first duty is to create your character. To keep the main story consistant you have to play a Human Male. However, you don't have the amount of customization as you do in other Next-Gen RPGs, but there is some. You're allowed to adjust his hair style, hair color, eye color, skin color, and some body features. Once your happy with your character, you start the game. It opens up with a cinematic that helps explain the story. I didn't really pay attention and kinda skipped through it, but I'll watch it again and give a more detailed report. Okay, now you can actually play the game! You start off in an ancient dwarven ruin in the middle of a quest, that quest is to simply open the gate in front of you and kill the Groms. You'll quickly pick up the basic combat system of pulling the R Trigger to swing your weapon. Here's were some players get confused, myself included. You're told to head back out the gate and go outside, I was trying to open the second metal gate, but what you have to do is go back through the one you opened and out the big wooden doors. So after that, there'll be a npc waiting outside, talk to him to complete the quest. Follow the road to the nearest town, you'll have to fight off some wolfs, groms and maybe some bandits along the way. Once you reach the town you're free to do what you want, you can stick to the main quest or go off exploring and doing side quests. The choice is yours... |

Combat System The Two Worlds Combat System is relatively basic, but it does have some issues. As with most games you simply pull the R-Trigger to attack with your weapon, if you continually pull the trigger you can perform combos with melee weapons. And you use the L-Trigger to cast spells. First off is Melee Combat: You have a multitude of different styles of melee weapons: One-Handed Blades & Maces, Two-Handed Blades & Maces, Staves, Spears and Pole Arms. Any One-Handed Blade or Mace can be Duel Wielded if you have the Duel Wielding skill. Each type behaves differently in battle; One-Handed Weapons are the most effective when working with a group of players, weapons that require both hands often have a wide attack arc and you’ll damage nearby teammates. When duel wielding weapons, you can dish out a lot of damage to a single NPC, without the worry of hitting a teammate. The downside, along with Two-Handed weapons, is that you can’t carry a shield in the off-hand. And therefore will take more damage and not be able to block. Now onto Ranged Combat: There are two types of ranged combat in Two Worlds; Archery and Magic. To be able to use Archery, you must have the required skill and a Bow and Quiver equipped. I recommend turning off the Auto-Aim for Archery, it makes targeting a little easier via giving you control of where to aim. When you go to shoot an enemy, the view will swing behind your characters right shoulder and bring up a targeting reticule, much like in a shooter. Aim at your desired target and pull and hold the R-Trigger to draw the bow-string all the back, a meter will appear under your HP and MP bars to show you how far you’ve drawn it. Once it’s fully drawn, and you have your target sighted, release the trigger and fire your arrow. The Magic Combat works similar to that of Archery. Main difference is that you can have up to three Spells mapped to the D-Pad, along with other skills, but that will come later. When you have the desired spell ready, target your enemy and use the L-Trigger to cast the spell. There are five types of magic you can learn: Air, Fire, Water, Earth and Necromancy. All of distinct spells from one another, and offer different effects. There’s also Mounted Combat, although I’m not sure if it’s featured in multiplayer. It performs the same as Melee, albeit a bit tricky to use. However, it can be very effective if you can master it. |

Multiplayer is unplayable, the framerate completely stalls. But while the solo suffers the same pop up and framerate problems same as Oblivion, it's endurable the same way you get used to and live with it in Oblivion. That said, and this is from someone who held Oblivion as his favorite RPG, Two Worlds is better. Similar, yet with a better story, more humor and more going on, as well as constantly and quickly leveling up and new things always expanding within the world. Sort of how I imagined a Oblivion sequel to be. Anyone into Oblivion, other than preparing yourself mentally for that pop up and framerate problems continuing, can't imagine you not loving this solo game. Hopefully they one day fix the multi, but even without, this game is at least as long as Oblivion, giving you more than your money's worth. This is a new classic for open world RPG fans. |

While I agree with everything you say, except the multiplayer part. It does have it's issues with lag, and mostly it's caused by the hosts upload speed, from my experience. Whenever I was hosting, my friends reported little lag, outside of the framerate and loading, and we would play for 4+ hours. But sometimes they would get dropped, never quite figured that one out. |

You're right, multi is cool now. When it was stalled, that was the first couple days when it came out. But tried multi this week and now all works with only as bad a framerate as the solo. Totally playable. Hell, I was just in there for like five hours last night. |

Is the multiplayer fixed? If that's the case I might have to pick this game up! |

Only caution I would advise is I only checked multi with Linda in the room. So the two of us online seemed fixed to only as bad a framerate as you expect in say, Oblivion. But I have no idea if we got lucky and it collapses with more than two people in the same game. Still, even if multi didn't work, there's plenty of game here in solo. This is a full game in single player and the gameplay and story are actually deeper than even the almighty Oblivion (my now second favorite RPG on 360). So it's not like you have to worry about getting your money's worth. You like Elder Scroll style RPG's, this is a must buy. |

I'm really glad that you've been able to look past the technical issues Two Worlds has, Spazz. Most people will play the game for maybe a couple of hours and decide it's trash. The first couple of hours are really the most difficult, you have crappy armor and weapons, so everythig kicks your ass. But once you get some upgraded equipment, the really starts to make up for it's technical problems. I just wish you could bring horses into towns while riding them, and also be able to teleport them. As for the multi issues, there hasn't been an update for it yet. It's really dependant on each player's connection. The area's you play in are persistent, so there's a lot of data being sent and recieved. That's why many people lag during multi, they just don't have the bandwidth for it. Most of the time I'll have around 10Mbs down and 1Mbs up going to the 360, which is about half of my full bandwidth (25Mbs down and 2.5Mbs up). And the more players there are, the worse it could get. I have hosted a game with 5 or 6 members of PGL with a little lag. |

Interesting thing about the game....even if you somehow were done with solo, which seems impossible to be done with to me...but if you were, a player can go into the multiplayer world....alone. Weird, but true. You can go solo in multi. I've worked on leveling up online alone, since it's a much slower and longer effort than the offline. So until they do update, you can still play multi, which is like playing solo on a harder difficulty, to level up some before the framerate gets patched. |
