You know, typical Japanese stuff.

Man, they are still seriously messed up from those nukes tossed on them, the whacked out imagination they have.

You play as possibly the hottest girl in videogames, a witch named Alicia who arives out of nowhere after the world has collapsed due to viruses, famine, earthquakes AND THEN demon infestation. Whoo, Earth is having a really bad year in this game. They couldn't have piled more devastation into the plot as to why the cities burn without the planet blowing up.

You even get statted up magic that allows for some of the biggest levels of destruction you'll ever see in the decently destructable environments.
And while the game is really goofy, in that Japanese way, it's good goofy. I wanted more story in that all that is there, from the set up to anything they do get into, particularly Alicia's orgin, which I'm not telling you, are all really cool.
People will likely get turned off by the voiceacting, it's some of the most over the top English translation I have EVER heard. It makes the original Resident Evil acting seem subtle and Oscar worthy.

Me, I like it. But I like cheesy. It's fun. But if you're one of those people where that kind of thing works your nerves instead, well, this is your hell.
And it'll be a shame if you miss the fun story. But Japanese style entertainment fans, this was aimed at you and no one else. You like goofy humor in your bloody entertainment and are an action gaming fan, this is for you.

But it is a hardcore experience. Game has plenty of flaws to endure to get to the chewy center. And I have to mention....the final boss is the most fun boss I ever fought and will take you, no joke, a minimum of 20 minutes to beat, broken into different gameplay techniques all through the way of wearing it down. Excellent stuff.

Graphics: It won't make you look for a hole in your console big enough to have sex with your 360 in appreciation, like Gears, but Bullet Witch looks pretty good. And it's in 1080p, something to appreciate when/if that black 360 drops. Or at least I will. My TV supports it. And for those that do, it's a nice bonus.
There are sections light on texturing and random (but not bad) pop up is continuous. No more than many games, but certainly not less either.
Still, the creatures, which kudos to the imagination in their design, look good.
It also has collision detection problems, like when you hit them (which you won't do often anyway, you'll be doing lots of shooting and spells) it seems like the hits land next to them, not on them. And when these giant tumor guys fall (you'll see), They are floating an inch off the ground, not actually on it when they've crash landed. Typical stuff you'e seen in many games that you've likely learned to live with, but it is there.

Past these technicalities, it's great. Huge cities, Big beautiful explosions and Alicia is animated extremely well. Her coat flows, she flips with every detail done flexable and real looking. Little stuff that makes it look so much more real than the stiff animations of many other games.
Let's leave it that, even with the same old little problems of collision, the game actually looks like a 2007 game that isn't a port.

Sound: Those voices are going to make some people cut their ears off. Haha, I know this is the second time I'm mentioning the voices, but that's because it can't be emphasized enough!
There are a lot of things I like that no one else does and the voices on even the "foot soldiers" is an Uwe Boll movie level of quality. They say the most idiotic things in the most unfitting voice there could possibly be and I think 99 percent of people will groan and want to commit suicide to escape it.
Other sounds, such as the gunfire, explosions and especially the lightning and meteor storm spells are incredible. Everytime I do those spells I have another eargasm. Those who like booming destruction, crank it up.
Of course, you'll be cranking up those demon's voices doing that, so good luck with that.
But the surround for everything is done well. Other than the aquired taste of the voice acting there's no complaints and it's done high quality.

Gameplay: There is very little in here that is original. You've played Gungrave and Bloodrayne, you'll have a feel for the controls instantly. What's there is fine. Responds fine. And I like that they put the spells access on the bumpers.
Don't be a baby whining about it after two minutes of play. Because at first it will mess with your mind being different. Stay with it and within 20 minutes you'll get why it's like that and find out how natural the placement is and wish future games that need this sort of control will copy it. I like the controls a lot.
Game is as linear as it gets, but the levels are huge in space to give you plenty of stuff to blow up. While it is typical shooter in that you will proceed forward and shoot those in your way, and the AI is last gen level with plenty of idiots, the amount of destruction you cause and the creatures and world thought up (maybe I have a soft spot seeing San Francisco represented) that you don't care if it's gameplay you've done before.
Thanks to the presentation, I was having fun. But there are no puzzles or stealth or tactics to break up the gameplay. This is pure action all the way, the only change coming from the two bosses. It won't tax your brain.

Online / Other: While there is no multiplayer, for those masturbators (which is what I call those of us who like to play solo), Bullet Witch is made to be replayed. You, in fact, cannot stat up your spells and gun in one go through, not by a long shot. After you beat the game, when you play through it again you keep those stats from before and keep building, so you unlock new power in the replay, which is kind of cool.

Those who like to just run through a game will not be happy with the fact the game, if you simpy blast through it once, is about six hours long. Pretty short. But that's what you get for not appreciating the game and not blowing everything up!
I much prefer replaying a game with bigger weapons afforded me than to have the game longer due to recycling levels and backtracking simply to lengthen the time. You don't agree, then here's a perfect rental for you. You can run through story once in one day if that's your thing. Action fans will get a lot more fun out of it.

Those that appreciate replaying fun levels with added rewards after experiencing a short, but tight, story without dead lulls, I've put in about fifteen hours and am not nearly done with statting up and am not bored in replaying.
Sadly, it's a rental for most when the game deserves to be a buy.

Summary: This is a great action title. Sure, it's not the next evolution in action and the AI is about as with it as if you made everyone in Special Ed. sniff glue...but it's fun! Good old fashion fun.
This game was not made for a mainstream audience, in fact the mainstream of people that do experience this game probably won't see past the flaws, it was aimed for pure action fans by action fans. It won't be on any Game Of The Year lists at sites.

Bullet Witch is to games what Crank is to movies. It won't win any awards, but it's a great game to those who "get it." Out of ten, I give it an 8.5. Again, taking into account how I'm into cheesy entertainment and Japanese style, as well as action games. So that's the score for my own experience and anyone who thinks they like things in line with me.
But for everyone else? Eh, probably a 6. And on a personal note, I hate you.
Action gamers should show this title some love and buy it when they can. Support a Japanese exclusive with a quirky little good time.

A little extreme in the correlations, Spazz... but a great review nonetheless! Hope you don't mind me adding a little "zing" to the page.

Cheers Spazz, and thanks for filling up that empty space in the review section! :)

Yeah, I'm way too lazy to throw in pics. You know me, I type a million words a minute, if I focus it's nothing to bang out a review. It's just the focusing part.
Hey, I got past the boss on the plane again and noticed something interesting, having tackled it on all difficulty settings.
Difficulty only changes the damage the foot soldiers do, but no matter what the setting, the boss battles are just as hard and just as damaging. Weird, huh?

Reviews are easy. You know, reviews in my voice, not meticulously edited and acting like no one knows a thing about the title before reading my crap. I'll throw random ones up, keep the section alive.
It's just, no point reviewing a game like GRAW2 or...later on Halo3 if they're awesome and every review says they're awesome. I mean, if you hold the same exact opinion as everyone else, well, it's already done!
Now, you think Halo3 is a turd and everyone else loves it, there's a fun read.
Of course, Halo3 is a bad example since no way it sucks.

But if I see a game getting reviews from people with a different perspective from mine, sure, I'll toss a review up.
This stuff just flies out of me inside of a a couple minutes, not like I'm laboring over it or doing it for any other reason than letting it out for myself.
To Infinity and beyond!

To be honest, this game does not look intresting to me, but that is only from first impressions. Before i make any real decisions, i must try it. The only problem is, I am too lazy to rent, buy, or download anything...

Too lazy to rent, buy OR download! What exactly do you play?
It's true, you have to not only be an action gaming fan, but a HARDCORE one, willing to look past flaws here and there. It's not made for mass appeal like a Halo.
But those who love that type, this is a hidden gem. Especially those who see it through to the end boss.
