From the bits of the shows I've seen, I'd say it's gonna be between Marian and Lake Park for 1st and 2nd, and Prospect/LWE for 3rd and 4th |

So, is the 1A vote a mistake or a joke? As someone involved with a 1A band, I'll tell you it's about impossible. Dan, has the 1A winner ever even been close to top 10? Your finals winner is not going to be from the group that performs before most other bands are even awake! Don't get me wrong - there are some great bands - but your finals winner is probably going to be from 3-5A this year. |

I personally think that if Marian doesn't win, Lake Park will. |

My money is on Marian. Even if they don't win state for some reason, they will still be the best band in Illinois by far when Grand Nationals comes around. This competition is just to see how fast they are proceeding to their normal level. |

Nobody will ever argue that. By Grand Nats, Marian blows everyone out of the water. They don't peak early, and that's why they have been getting beaten the past few years. I just don't like seeing Marian win ISU if they don't deserve to at that night. If they were the best show of the evening, then by all means. I too think they're gonna win this year though...they're looking and sounding great...I'm actually really interested to see how they fare at BOA this weekend against Broken Arrow. |

Marion Catholic is a great band, no doubt about it but I 100% agree, they really dont deserve it, because its expected. I mean haven't they won enought? haha! I seriously love the Marion band, but they kind of have two advantages that most other bands dont, god and money! So if Marion doesn't win, then its has to be Lake Park, but I am even gonna go out on a limb here and say LWE, because they have had a great showing this year. BUT its almost for sure to Marion or Lake. Just a little thing though.... I think that when everyone heres Marion Catholic they seem to be almost afraid of them, and judges are especially guilty of maybe accidentally overlooking a few mistakes here and there that might acctually cost Marion the title. If I were judging then my eyes would especially on their feet and their eyes and I would definitly be listening for the wholes in the sound when I pass by someone not playing, its such a huge band that it wouldnt make a difference to the Box, but on the feild its HUGE just like for the smaller bands. I just hope those judges at State have some good ears!

Don't deserve it? So they don't work hard like everyone else? Or they apparently have more money than all of the other bands? Have they won enough? Hmm, idk. Well MARIAN does perform a challenging musical and visual book at a top notch quality, which results in most of their performances being of a better quality than most bands. So it makes sense that judges would tabulate scores in Marian's Favor, I mean that's why they've won ISU EVERY YEAR ![]() Also if that is how you would judge, then good for you! You'd be doing what a judge is supposed to be doing! And you are right. It would be hard for a music ENSEMBLE judge to hear an INDIVIDUAL not playing all the way up in the box. |

that was a really thoughtless comment. how many times a band has won doesn't mean they shouldn't win any more. plus i'm sure most people know that it's not about trophies, you want another trophy for your band room? go buy a trophy and have your name engraved and there you have it. what's special about that piece of material? nothing. come together as one band and create a fantastic, enjoyable performance that you will remember for a life time. the memories will overshadow the silly pieces of plastic trophies, which you can have as many as you want of. Money can't buy you true passion. I don't see them out here bragging about winning and such, which makes me respect them. I do think they were better back when they were winning BOA more often, but still they deliver and are a CONSISTENT finalist at nationals. Yes, they have a peculiar way of delivering a SHORT show at state, but it qualifies for the rules and when they give the cleanest show, they win. It is what it is. priorities for most bands I know is to have the best show possible every time. I'm not one to stand up for marian, i usually don't find much reason, and just leave it, but i would stand up for any band in this case. Edited by xmusicx711, Oct 19 2009, 10:03 PM.

wow. not even sure where to begin attacking this one. 1- "god and money"...i know its tongue and cheek but way to represent you and your school. good work. 2- marian has the best track record of any band in boa history. that didnt just happen overnight. they are hands down the best band in il. just because they dont win state a couple of times doesnt change anything. it means they may not have performed the best of the evening. 3- marian makes mistakes like everyone else, but they are smaller mistakes, fewer mistakes, because they are a national caliber band. they have a glorious sound and look spectacular individually. sometimes their forms are a little dirty. so are yours. i can almost guarantee that marian will win state. especially if its based on those judges' ears. wow...just wow. prepare for the onslaught of comments...they're well on their way when you say such ridiculous things against one of the nation's best high school bands in such a rude way. btw, just some interesting tidbits, grand national champions 1985, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1994, 1997, 2000 - more than any other band in boa history undefeated in their class at the state contest since 1980 - only il band that can claim this ten time state champion. grand national finalist since 1984 - only band that can claim this (as far as i know) yup...
