QUEENSBURY -- Great Escape is planning a new attraction for 2013, but will wait until Thursday to say more.

Six Flags, the company that owns Great Escape, will announce Thursday new attractions for its 13 theme parks.

Rebecca Close, Great Escape spokeswoman, said she could not say anything about the new attraction until Thursday.

“We are very excited about it — to announce in conjunction with the entire company,” she said Saturday.

Close said Six Flags made a companywide announcement for new attractions in 2011.

On the Great Escape newsletter, the theme park describes the announcement as the biggest of the year, and asks people to take their best guess on what it will be.

“We won’t reveal the new items until August 30, but we promise it’s going to be amazing, just like in years past,” the theme park wrote in the newsletter.

In 2007, the theme park introduced its Tornado slide, a 60-foot water funnel that drops seven stories and spins people around with 5,000 gallons of cycling water per minute.

Since then, other new attractions include the Mega Wedgie, the Kidzopolis, the Alpine Fest Haus and Sasquatch.

In 2011, the theme park opened Timbertown, a children’s play area.

The most recent new attraction is Alpine Freefalls, a waterslide.

The park doesn't have a lot of rides. If I fit on it I will go on it. I'm just happy that the focus is on the dry park.
