I know that some people have songs that they associate with characters. But do you ever design locations with particular songs in mind? Almost like a theme song for the place? Every time I work on my upcoming Chicago setting, I keep hearing You Belong to the City by Glenn Frey. I've come to think of it as my setting's anthem. |

When I RPed on mIRC in it's glory days the Channel I was a part of had Sound files we could use for atmosphere and Character Entrances. It was very much fun to play with .wav files and then pass them around to all in the channel so we could use them. That way we could post our entry to the room/area and include the song with it, many of us became associated with our own songs so much that if anyone else used them it was considered bad form. I don't have Themes for settings so much but I do associate games with particular music and I always try to have some playing during my games at a low level to provide that little extra bit of ambient sound. Way way back I had the CD's from TSR that had sound bites on them and I tried to use those but I found it far too annoying to be reaching for a remote and clicking Nextnextnextnextnextnext to reach the sound clip I wanted to use. |

You know, we used to do the same thing on AOL when I gamed there over ten years ago. Everyone had their own entrance music. I'd nearly forgotten about that.
When I used to game online, I'd always have some CD playing. For years afterwards, when I heard those CDs, I thought of playing. I'm not used to associating individual songs with a particular setting; it just kinda happened this time. I rather like it, though. When I mix CDs for our use, I do group songs according to theme: town music, fight music, spooky/sneaky music. But I don't tend to focus on individual songs so much as the whole group. |

What I always enjoyed about the music was when I was describing things to the party I was the only one speaking so it was just my voice with the light musical accompaniment in the background. Made for some humorous and some very memorable moments for our groups. |
