One question: Does the +4 bonus stack with other bonuses, like wearing regular armor? |

Can't believe its not butter

Nope, two like bonuses don't stack so the mage armor's "armor bonus" won't stack with a suit of platemail's "armor bonus". |

That's because the bonus from a shield spell is a "shield" bonus. Different bonuses always stack with each other unless specifically mentioned. Therefore, the "armor" bonus granted by mage armor, the "shield" bonus granted by a shield spell, the "deflection" bonus granted by a ring of protection and the "natural armor" bonus granted by an amulet of natural armor all stack with each other, but the "shield" bonus granted by a shield spell and the "shield" bonus granted by a large steel shield do not stack with each other. |

Note: There are esceptions to this hard rule. If a listed bonus specifically states that it stacks, even though it normally wouldn't,then it stacks. I can't think of an example for this off the top of my head, but I'm pretty sure I've seen it before. "Circumstance" bonuses sometimes stack with one another. Additionally, "dodge" bonuses always stack with other dodge bonuses. Therefore, the +1 dodge bonus granted by the haste spell and the +1 dodge bonus granted by the Dodge feat stack to provide a +2 dodge bonus to AC (at least against the single opponent that the Dodge feat works against). This is all spelled out nicely on page 21 of the 3.5 Dungeon Master's Guide (which is Chapter 2, for those of you using the SRD). |
