Hey folks. Just thinking about something that may be fun and informative for our site...with Kismet's approval, of course.

What if we posted and edited each other's adventures? I sit down and create an adventure that I think is really good...but I may share it with someone who suggests things that make it even better and help me start thinking in new, creative ways as a DM. In truth, writing adventures is the same as writing short stories or novels...just in a different form...so if writers edit each others work...why not DM's?

Any thoughts?

Working together on an adventure, or adapting an adventure could be challenging. However, you could adapt a story, and then convert that into a D&D adventure.

There was a 'game' and old friend of mine showed me - basically, someone writes the first paragraph of a story, then someone else carries on, then someone else.

Maybe if you had a place where this kind of interactivity can take place, the individual DMS(and players) could create a story, and this could be converted to an adventure.

By the way - I am pretty drunk at the moment, so hopefully I make sense ....

I have no problem with your idea and find it a good one. I could try to dig up some of my old adventures and scenarios, perhaps, and I'd be happy to help with the scenarios of others. Did you want a separate board for this endeavor? Cause I could whip one up in half a second.

I think that would be fun. I know that I at least could use help with the middle parts of an adventure- keeping that exciting and relevent. A new perspective would be wonderful.

Especially since I've got about a day to do all my work and now come up with some mini quests/missions for a group of troubadors working as spies/covert messengers for a rebel army.

I appreciate your agreement, Kismet.

What I see in my mind is a space on this board where DM's can post adventures, or parts of adventures, that they want others to read and critique. Maybe the DM missed an important rule somewhere; maybe the adventure reads great but seems designed for 10th level heroes instead of the three 1st level rogues that the DM is planning on using it for; maybe the adventure is horribly written and poorly plotted, but the main villain is amazingly detailed and perfectly aligned with the rules and campaign setting. The possibilities for collaboration, learning, and growth are only limited by our willingness and commitment to communicate.

We could agree on a certain format for submitted adventures to make editing and discussion efficient. For example, I write my adventures with bold, underlined headings and sidebars. That makes it really easy for me to edit my own work.

I am sure many of you feel the same way when I say that, for me, being a DM (GM, Storyteller, etc.) is a very rewarding hobby that I take very seriously. Any process or system that would help me evolve my mind in ways that allow me to be a better DM is at least worth an effort on my part.

Kismet...if you are willing to try this new idea then I am 100% onboard.

I generally like a challenge; makes the work more interesting.

This could be one way of approaching the adventures we mold. Someone could suggest a movie, book, or show and then we could all set about converting the story into game terms. We'll have to come up with a name for this method, to distinguish it from the others.

This is another way that we could go about creating adventures. A person could get the ball rolling and leave it up to others to finish. We should come up with a name for that, too.

I could make another board for this, or I could make a sub-board in the DM's Garage. Anyone have a preference?

Or maybe someone can think of a better spell, or whatever. These sorts of things can be very necessary when designing adventures, especially if you're moving into areas that are new to you.

I tend to write my stuff in a less formatted way, and if people are going to be posting pieces of adventures then formatting will have to be rather general.

So I guess we should poll our members and see who wants to participate? Is that how we start the ball rolling?

I have made some polls in the DM's Garage to ask about a few things, so we'll see what people have to say. If you get sick of waiting, just post something and get it started.

Awesome! Thanks.

I've got an adventure I've designed and written up, but it's written up horribly. I don't know if this is what you're looking for, but I wouldn't mind posting what I have to the board (mainly a bunch of notes) and having someone who knows how to do this kind of thing, parse and edit it down to make it usable for someone not named me.

While I think Hades had other things in mind as well, I think we could work on that Aladdar.
