Hey everyone on the Kismet boards,

I've currently had a brilliant brainstorm for a game system. I'm a huge fan of the Dynasty Warriors video game series, and I've recently stumbled upon a few sources that would make for great rules for a Dynasty Warriors D20 system.

However, if I wanted to share this idea with you all, a regular post would be way too long. Hence, the logical answer would be to submit the file with the core rules online and leave a link for the download. But this is where I reach my dilemma. I don't know of any websites where I can submit my ideas online. Does anybody know of any good places where my ideas might not be stolen?

Thanks for your help,

Vacerious

you can probably e-mail the file to one of us with webspace and we can put it up where you can link to it. However you can't really lay claim fully to a copyright for it since it's somebody else's system. So unless you get permission of Dynasty Warriors you can't legally claim this as your own. At least that's the way I understand it.

Yea, thats pretty much the sum of it. Dynasty Warriors is property of Koei and I believe derivative work is classifed as a reproduction under US copyright law (International is another cettle of fish). But its not like the Feds are going to bust down your door if you make a Geocities site and post your stuff.

There are plenty of free places to host content as long as you don't mind adds on your web pages (it won't add them to things like zip files or documents people download). I would say Yahoo!Geocities or Homesite would work for that kind of thing. Your ISP may even have some web space ready for you to use.

A question software developers and the music industry have been asking for years. Pretty much, if its on the web, some one is going to snatch it and post it on their site as their own. Just keep a watchful eye and document when you post things in case it comes down to talking to a lawer man.

Ok Dynasty warrios maybe under license but who's to say you have to use their exact system. I mean you think they didn't get their stuff from the Chinese legends. Romance of the three kingdoms...not the game. So call it something else, and create a new system

Fixxxer might be able to post your stuff at the Archive if you don't make a site for it yourself, Vacerious. His site does exist for submissions.

you could always ask him, but I don't think it meets the requirements for submission to his site. His is for 3.5 D&D, and while this is a d20 system, it's not really a Dungeons and Dragons system. But you never know.

To Darkelf:

Could you clarify this statement, please? It's slightly confounding. If you're suggesting that Koei has long developed a table-top war gaming system, I would either have to disagree or ask for a link. :D But I think you do have a point in renaming the system. Unfortunately, most of the stuff involving combat will be from the White Wolf Warcraft D20 supplement, "Alliance and Horde Compendium", so I'm not quite sure what problems that will bring up. I would think of my own stuff, but I find that their system for large battles very well written and thought out.

To everyone else:

Thanks for the advice. I first thought that fixxer's sight might be worth a try, but you do have a point. It's not exactly DnD. And by 'not exactly,' I mean 'not at all.'

Essentially, it's one guy's army against anothers. There's units, and there's generals. Units consist of several individual troops, while generals are individual people. Anybody who has played DW would be familiar withthe concept behind the game. I've yet to write most of the system up sadly, because I'm also busy with Science Fair stuff and Call of Cthulhu right now.

Hi Vacerious,
I don't know if it is any help to you, but I've got a website that is... eh.... nearly empty. It get's around zero traffic, so everything there will be safe from theft and will pass right on to oblivion if given enough time.

If it'll help you out, I can at least provide a place to put it. That way you can direct other people to it, and acces it yourself.

Oh, if you change the name into Destiny Warriors, you avoid the trouble of the name, which may be copyrighted.
