Jack slowly searched the area around the body, but the pit was the only trap he could find on the body. With the help of Thurg he was able to cut the body down and search it for anything of interest. His search uncovered just how brutally she had been beaten. There were literally 25 stab wounds and bruises covering the entire body. It seemed the merchant had probably been dead before being hung as a trap or warning to those passing down the road. Other than the wounds, his search only turned up the necklace. It was a beautiful gold necklace with a bright red ruby in the center. It was obviously valuable but it held no identifying marks whatsoever. At Rumil's insistence, Thurg happily bashed the cart apart so that it could be used as a stretcher of sorts. With the body placed on the stretcher, and Thurg dragging the two mangled goblin bodies by their feet, the party was ready to proceed on towards Lugard. |

Before anyone could answer Jack's question all their eyes were drawn to the sky. Several large bands of smoke spiraled high into the sky from some distance away. Sorry, I meant to add that portion into the last update and completely forgot. |

Thrug picked up his pace. Either there was a good fight going on or someone was cooking and either way he wanted to be there sooner rather than later. |

Rúmil’s mind flashed back to his early days. Visions of what had happened to his village played over and over in his head. The smoke spiraled up and it reminded him of the smoke pouring out of his own home. Smoke that would soon die down and be left with charred wood and corpses. He had not been strong enough to do anything then, but times have changed. I’m strong enough now, he almost growled to himself. A sneer began to form on his face as he thought those words. Whoever or whatever had done this would pay. Rúmil and his companions would see to it. Without much thought as to what the others were doing he let go of the litter he was carrying and drew his morningstar. Rúmil picked up his pace and continued with the others towards the uncertainty of what he feared would be left of the village. |

The four adventurers ran down the hill and towards the smoke, drawing their weapons as they ran. As they rounded the curve they came into an opening that revealed what was left of the city of Lugard. Smoke billowed into the air from a few buildings that were still burning while others lay in smoldering ruins. People were everywhere in different states of being. Some just walked around dazed and confused while others seemed to be working in an orderly fashion, attempting to put out fires, help the injured, or other various and assundry tasks. One man in clerical gear hurried around the town, kneeling next to injured people occassionaly stopping to pray, and other times barking orders for something to be done with the body. The arrival of the armed adventurers startled the two guards patrolling the entrance out of their thoughts. One of them reached for a rope hanging from a bell and began to ring it loudly while the other guard reached for his sword. The townspeople stopped their movements, all looking towards you. Some reached for weapons, others for whatever they could find to use in defense, while others ran off to hide wherever they could. "Halt!" yelled the guard who had managed to retrieve his sword. "Lower your weapons and state your name and business!" He put on a show of force, but his stutters and cracked words belied his fear. |

"Thrug come to city to eat but now Thrug think cooky mans are all gone. OH and Thrug brought mean goblin mans who tried to hit Thrug and friends with pointy stick." Thrug tossed the corpses to the ground. "And goblin mans hurt girl" he said pointing to stretcher used to cary the corpse. He paused for a second making sure he hadn't missed anything... |

OOC: I'm going to inch closer to Thrug, in case the towns folk don't realize how friendly we are. Jack attempts use diplomacy instead of cold steel. "Friends, we are friends. We came across this female brutally murdered. There were goblins lurking near by and my extremely large friend, with the really big sword, killed both of them woth ease. When we saw the smoke rising from the direction of your good town, we ran faster to see if we could be of service. If you permit us, I'm sure Rumil could be of service, and Thrug here can fight really well when the need arises. So please lets not be too hasry with out weapons. We've come to help, not harm." After his dashingly charming speech, Jack places his daggers in their sheathes and shows his open hands. |

Rúmil put his weapon away not wanting to draw the townsfolk into something they may regret later. They’re afraid, Rúmil thought. I was too when it happened to me, oh so many years ago. Memories filled his mind of his own village being attacked because too many similarities with what he was witnessing now was causing those memories to resurface. Looking to the guards, and then to the townsfolk who were no doubt listening if not watching them Rúmil announced, “My name is Rúmil, servant of Fharlanghn. I seek no trouble, nor do my companions, and I ask to help those who need Fharlanghn’s blessings.” With that said, Rúmil began to move slowly towards the nearest injured person and attempted to ascertain their wounds. Rúmil looked around for the one who they saw with the clerical garb and asked, “are there any in need worse than this one?” Rúmil said as he was tending to the individual. “Fharlanghn has seen fit not to draw on his gifts already today, and I may be able to help those in worse shape with his magic if you’d allow it.” |

Jack stares uneasily at the towns folk who have yet to respond, to himself or the other members of his band. He prays that they understand that they are no enemy. For he wishes to not have to harm any of them. |

As Rumil approached the guards and put away his weapon, his speech and his clerical vestments put them at ease. "Thank you for your offer of assistance sir. I am sure that Father Jerald could use your help as he has been hard at work all day." The guard pointed towards a small man who was hunched over a small form over the ground. He shook his head in dismay and placed a small cloth over her face before barking an order to a young boy, no older than 15. "As for the rest of you, it would be well advised for you to speak with Jonas Tiller, our town's mayor. Marcus will escort you to him." He pointed towards the younger guard next to him. "As for those things you have slain, leave them out here out of sight. We will let Jonas decide how to handle them. And for the young lady you found, take her to Jonas as well." With that, the young guard by the name of Marcus began walking towards the center of what was left of the town obviously expecting you to follow him. Meanwhile the other guard shouted towards the townsfolk. "Put away your weapons, these travelers mean us no harm." Rumil Diplomacy roll: 15 +2 (circumstance bonus) succeeds. |
