OOC: I thought we were waiting for you (or perhaps the others)? I'm ready to go. |

Thrug looked up from his clean plate. How he managed to lick it clean without anyone noticing his rudeness was a secret but he manged to do it everytime a meal was served. "Thrug not understand what friends have aginst old mans. In Thrug's village old mans are leaders and warriors. If old man can help us get to battle than Thrug will say yes. Old mans always know the dangerous places to walk and what happens when you walk there." |

(ooc: You don't have to ooc your response. It's much more fun if you roleplay it. lol but I'll go ahead and move it ahead anyhow.) "Yes, I think this man's experience could be invaluable." Rumil intoned bowing his head slightly. The rest of the group murmered their approval. "Very well." Tilles exclaimed. "I'll lead you to him myself. Follow me." The group rose and followed Tilles down the small path that wound around the small chapel they had slept in the night before pausing long enough for them to grab any equipment they wanted to take. Once they were loaded up he led them down the road and out the exit on the North side of town. A small path jutted off from the main road and he turned up it leading into the woods and running past a small stream. The path slowly faded away to underbrush and he continued following the stream until a small hovel appeared near the stream. It was made out of small logs and mud with several animal pelts hanging in the trees nearby drying and covering the windows. Tilles knocked on the door. "Karl, come on out old man." A small greying head appeared at the window with a scraggly grey beard. "Well if it isn't Master Tilles. Come on in friend. I'm glad to see you're alive." His answer was almost jovial and within a few minutes the door opened. Tilles entered, "I've got a few friends I'd like you to meet old friend." "Very well, bring them all in." the voice replied. The four of them entered the small hovel which reduced the movement to almost nothing. But they all fit and Karl had a smile from ear to ear. He was wearing loose fitting clothes made of leather and had a small scar from his right ear down beneath his eye which made him appear to scowl even when he smiled. "And what brings you out to these parts Master Tilles? Do it be the strange voices in the night?" "That it does old friend." Tilles responded. "There's been a great amount of trouble in these parts as I'm sure you well know. Most of the town lies in ruins and the travelers that used to litter these roads has grown to a small drip. We believe whatever has caused these problems has taken over the mines as a base of operations. Can you take them to the entrance without being noticed? They have offered to investigate for us." "Can I?" He laughed leaping from his small bed which he had been leaning against. "I most certainly can. Will I? Now that is the appropriate question." He began to walk near the four adventurers taking them all in. "A man of high prestige I see." as he walked near Rumil. "And a man of dark shadows." as he walked near Jack. "And you," he said while pointing at Dru. "You're much too frail to be out in these woods now aren't you." She arched up slightly annoyed at the comment. "You'll do though I suppose." "And this one," He held his nose for a moment as he took a sniff of the large beast. "I don't see how you'll ever walk quiet through these woods without attracting anything with half a nose, but if this is the best you can find I believe I could do it." "Tell me, what do you believe to be in those mines if I may be so brave as to ask?" He looked at all four adventurers inquisitively. |

Jack stares as he makes his introductions. Turning over to Dru he mouths the words "Dark Shadows? really?" Jack smiles and listen some more. |

Slightly annoyed at his comment of her frailness, but recognizing the truth where it lay, Dru' replied to the man's question. "Creatures of cruelety." Then, hearing Jack's comment, she smiled, and looked over to him. The way he was standing, he was in shadows, and the way they played across his features, certainly was pleasing... |

"Creatures of Cruelty indeed. Much is amiss in these lands the last several months. Creatures who have not walked these parts for years troll them shamelessly at night. There is not much I can do, I am but a frail old man, but already we have seen their destructive behavior. If the four of you believe that you can handle them then I will lead you." He stared them down. "I'm afraid there will be no one to save you should you fail though." |

Karl took their silence as confidence. "Very well then. If you are ready to proceed I can lead you to the entrance. I can leave as soon as you're ready. Just let me know." |

Rúmil pondered the old man’s words. As a faithful follower of Fharlanghn the very notion of being saved was already apparent. For those that walked in Fharlanghn’s footsteps were forever granted safe travel in the beyond. But Rúmil did not take the old man’s bait, for he suspected he was trying to gauge the group’s temperament. Instead he remained silent and smiling slightly befitting the knowledge of what lay ahead. After Karl offered to leave whenever the group was ready, Rúmil turned to Jonas and spoke, “May Fharlanghn guide your way back to the town. Thank you for the hospitality you have shown us, I am confident that we will be back with news of the mines in due time.” Nodding to Karl, “I, Rúmil, am ready to end this menace that is plaguing the area. Whether it be in the mines, or surroundings nearby. But best we check the mines as that would be the likely place to hide, unobserved, from townsfolk. We thank you for your wisdom in this matter of the lands nearby. Lead the way and we shall follow. And thank you again, Karl, for showing us this alternate path.” |

"Good, good...." Karl nearly danced in anticipation. "I pray I see you in better times my good friend." Tilles exclaimed as he gave the old man a quick hug. "And you too my newfound friends. You are truly a gift from the Creator Himself." He stepped in front of all four of them and placed a hand to his heart with a quick bow and then he placed a kiss upon each of their cheeks as was customary in these lands before someone left upon a journey. "And may the light of Pelor and Fharlangh," he added "shine down upon you and be a light in the darkest places. I will look for your return as soon as possible and we shall set watchers upon the path by day and night hoping to join your return." And with that Tilles left the small home and left the four adventurers alone with Karl. Karl was already gathering his walking staff and some supplies. "Find you safely there we will, yes, yes we will won't we my friends?" He was nearly giddy. "Come along, come along now." Karl headed out the door and with the four following him they headed towards the small stream which ran by his home. "Into the water," he beckoned. "To cover our scent we must." He led them downstream a good ways before stopping at a spot where the stream forked off into two directions. He followed to the right for quite a ways still before quickly leaping from the water and tying a small red piece of cloth from a tree branch. "We will use these to guide our way. Should you find need to return, just seek the markers to help guide your way." And with that they continued along the way. Karl often asked the group to wait in hiding in some brush while he skittered off ahead of them to scout out the area and he always returned without any of them noticing he was upon them. They travelled this way for the better part of the morning and into the early afternoon when Karl abruptly stopped their journey at the bottom of a hill. "It is time we must eat. You will find your journey at the top of that hill." When they had finished eating, he prompted them to follow and he lead them to the top of the hill as he had promised where he tied his last marker. He pointed towards the valley below and the path which led to the village could be seen winding through the woods and past a large hill. It was where the path intersected this hill that Karl pointed. "The entrance to the mines are there. It seems they have not set any watch, at least none that I can find. This is as far as this old man can go. I may be able to move unseen, but I am no match for spears should you be discovered at the door. I bid you farewell and the blessings of Pelor." He made the sign of Pelor with his fist in the air in front of them all. "Is there anything you need before I leave you be?" |

Spears at the door? Dru was slightly nervous as she heard this, and backed up toward Jack before stopping to look at the cave entrance. ((Edited)) |

(ooc, you don't see a cave from where you're at. You're at the top of a hill and Karl pointed to the valley below as to where the entrance is. So you don't see anything outlining the mines yet at all.) |

Thrug was so confused, everyone thought what they were looking for was theirs. How could he make sure that the town folk didn't fight about it before thowing a celebration feast? OH well, time for that latter, now it was time to collect what he was sent here for. "Thrug not affraid of spears." He pulled his sword from the patched together animal skin sheeth on his back. He looked in the direction of the old outdoorsman indicated and waited for the signal to start moving. |
