So today I look outside and it's apparently rained during the morning, before I got up. This is a good thing, since I like rain and we could certainly use it.

It looks like I'm going to be staying in this weekend and not just because of the weather. Finals are approaching with all of the speed and purpose of an oncoming locomotive.

I have one small research paper to do that I'm going to try to work out today, but it might spill over into tomorrow.

I have another research paper that is much more substantial in size and purpose and I suspect that I will start reading for it this weekend. I am not sure if there will be time for writing, but if there is I will try to get it done.

See, yesterday I just found out that my mom is having surgery next week. It's not life-threatening or anything like that, but it is surgery and I have to be there. The surgery happens to fall on the day that I give my students their final exam (then I have office hours, then I have to take a class myself). They seemed to have picked one of the most inconvenient times for me, but this is not about me. My mom's been waiting for this surgery for over a year.

But this does put a serious crimp in my imagined schedule. Here's what it looks like now:

Monday: tutoring and meeting
Tuesday: teach and another meeting, little research paper due
Wednesday: off, working like a mad mad monkey :monkey:
Thursday: probably spending the day at the hospital
Friday: drive my mom home from said hospital
Saturday: have to grade student portfolios but that shouldn't take too long
Sunday: off, working like a mad mad monkey :monkey:
Monday: off, working like a mad mad monkey :monkey:
Tuesday: have a possibly 9 to 5 meeting
Wednesday: off, working like a mad mad monkey :monkey:
Thursday: working like a mad mad monkey :monkey: big research paper due

Mi vida loca indeed.

The minor research paper is nearly done and is probably longer than it should have been, given that it is so minor, but I haven't done a minor research paper in some time. Nearly everything I do now of days is at least 12 to 20 pages, at least 10 sources. They told me to use 3 to 5 for this little thing and at first I didn't know what to do, but I'm better now.

I would have finished the paper entirely but the last paragraph just won't come and in this case writing is rather like defecating - trying to force it generally does more harm than good.

Tomorrow I have a limited amount of time to do all of the reading I can and try to see Valefor as much as I can because I won't get to see him very much this week.

This coming week. Oh God help me.

Damn. Any chance things will relax a bit in the near future?

Things will relax when I get home from turning in and presenting my big paper on March 16th. The light at the end of my tunnel...

So, after yesterday I have no more meetings of one particular sort. After today, I will have no more meetings of the other sort that I've had. I will also be able to turn in the last of my work for that "class" and have done with it. I am very much looking forward to it.

I thought that I would be able to stay put tomorrow and do some reading but apparently my mother would like me to take care of something I've been trying to get done for months. After I'm done with that, she says I might as well stay at her place the rest of the evening since I'll be sleeping there (so I don't have as far to go on Thursday morning when I have to wake up godawful early to take her to the hospital). She's probably right.

I still don't know what my day Thursday is going to look like. I'm not sure when her surgery is scheduled for. I know that once the surgery is done we can go home. She'll be there overnight.

I don't know just when I'm supposed to do all this reading I have to do, you know, the reading in which I'm supposed to get the real insight for how to go about writing my paper. It is looking like I will have to wait until the very last days before I'll be able to sit down and write it, and I really don't want that. I wish it was done right now. Instead, it's the sword of fuckin' Damocles.

Wednesday: off, working like a mad mad monkey :monkey:

And here I was wondering why on earth you would keep the monkey icon. I couldn't see any real use for it. I mean the cow yes, it dances and everyone loves cows, but the monkey? So you have effectively proven to me that the monkey is a useful icon

Trust me, the monkey is useful and expressive.

Especially since I found out that I'll have things to do on Wednesday so working like a mad monkey will be even more difficult. Go monkey go! :monkey:
