Today we picked up two new items for our house: a new monitor for me (flatscreen at long last), and a new DVD player. I am still trying to get used to the monitor but it looks like it'll be a good fit, especially since it doesn't take up so much goddamned room. I can actually fit a book on the desk in front of it now.
We use our DVD player so often that we really need a good one. We got another 5 disk changer since we both like the convenience of it. One thing that we did that we haven't done before, though, is buy warranties for both items. I think we've gotten a little paranoid. The monitor that I will be getting rid of wasn't that old and yet it started dying on me recently. The DVD player that we bought just over a month ago skips on disks with no problems. Then, on Tuesday, I'll be setting up our DSL and cancelling AOL. I am praying that everything goes smoothly and quickly, with a minimal amount of trouble. Cross your fingers for me. In addition to that, I'll be: working on game material for Saturday, commenting on papers, teaching two classes (and apparently I'll be observed this week), taking my class, starting my research for my paper, doing student conferences, tutoring and probably more that I'm not thinking of. All I have to say is:

I think you'll be much happier with DSL. That said, and I'm sure you have, make sure you've got your entire website backed up before cancelling AOL. |

Well, Tuesday 02/21 is the day that our DSL gets activated and I get to try to set everything up. I've never done it before but I'm going to give it all the patience I've got. Here's hoping I can get it done in a timely fashion.

Something to note with DSL (or at least with mine at any rate) if you have problems connecting. Once you get everything equipment wise set-up, make sure the connections are all good. Then unplug the base unit, wait 30-40 seconds, and then plug it in again. This was the problem with mine that neither the tech support guy nor I realized until an hour of time had passed. Apparently DSL needs to reboot effectively so if you've had the equipment plugged in before the system has been activated on their end you'll need to unplug your end and then re-plug everything back in in order for it to recognize your unit. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you K. |

I had this problem with DSL as well. Unfortunately, I had a cheap DSL modem, so I had to do this all the time...sometimes two or three times per day. On the off chance that this is as much a problem for you as it was for me, getting a good quality modem (such as a Motorola) should fix the issue. |
