Well, we're on our way to getting DSL! It's due to be activated next week! :cowdance:

Now all I have to do is find a place to store my web site. DaveReaves, you mentioned that you might be able to point me to a good hosting service. I am open to suggestions so I can get the move underway as soon as possible.

just be aware that you'll need to buy a domain name probably. Check with your dsl host however, they may have webspace as well. I'm fairly sure that my cable company does.

I'd be happy to do some pointing. The company that got The Random Inn up is 2mhost.net . They pride themselves on their super- afordable hosting. Its 1.95 a month but you have to pay a year in advance. You will also need to register yourself a domain name which will cost you another eight dollars up front. All in all I don't think it was fourty bucks to get everything running. The next day I was able to start uploading my files and when you went to therandominn.com their they were. There support staff is also pretty good though I only had to use it once.

Things like mySQL and some extra software cost more. If you want to upload from Microsoft Frontpage it costs a little more. All those things I have never had use for. You also get quite a bit of free stuff like e-mail accounts and web stats from various stat places. All in all its quite nice for the personal to simi-pro web sites.

Well, I was going to give 2mhost.net another look-over but I'm getting a message telling me they don't exist when I try to load their main site. Hm.

Yea I found out yesterday that they are undergoing some site revision. I can still get into my various tools and my website is up but the 2m site, billing and sign-up is all down.

Any idea how long the sign up is going to be down for? Since you're sorta on the inside I thought I'd ask. :D

Ah, thats the deal with 2mhost. They have changed over and are now located at 2mhost.com instead of .net.

I've got the DSL working and so far it's nice. I don't get any free web space with it though, so I will be looking up 2mhost.com after all (thanks for the update, D). I have until March 07 to move my site from AOL, since we're paid up till the 8th, but I don't want to wait that long. I might start the move tonight.

Edited to add: YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHHHAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!

Well, I just got done converting my Vampire site and signing up with 2mhost. Once I can get access I'll start moving all of my stuff over (which will be a lot easier to do now that I have shiny new DSL). :D

Say Dave...I noticed at the randominn that all of your addresses start with www.therandominn.com. I know I sound like a complete monkey, but how does that work? :monkey:

I just put all my files in the public_html folder. That should make the directory yourdomainname.com/yourfile.html

Is yours doing something diffrent?

Also, I'm a little confused about domain forwarding. 2mhost says to change the primary and secondary DNS name servers, which I've already done, but I'm not sure what else I'm supposed to do. Before, I just forwarded visitors to http://www.members.aol.com/KismetsDandD/DandDIndex.html - now I'm not sure if there's an address I should be forwarding to, or what that address might be.

I guess I shouldn't do all this upon waking after a long sleep...
