I have so much to do today for my classes, but I totally don't feel like doing them. I'd rather work on gaming stuff, or read some of my gaming books. I know I'm not the only one who must wrestle with this sort of problem.

I have to get this work done today, but......

I'm in the same boat. See, I'm stupid, I downloaded a seven day free trial of EQ2. I know what those games do to me but I thought to myself, "Herbert," (you thought I was going to call myself Self didn't ya!) "Herbert, you can only go to level six, you will be fine, heck you may even hate the game!" So I downloaded it, and played, and was weak, and upgraded to the full version, and now I play EQ2. I have got so little sleep in the last few days and I can't wait til five so I can play some more.

Ok, so its not the same boat but the boats on the same lake. Anyone up for an adventuring buddy can meat me on the Bazzar server, just look for Waffles- I'm on the good side!

Everquest is like a drug that keeps beckoning to me to come back. Fair Aladdar, Paladin of the realms of Norrath. You are needed to stem the tide of....

*SLAM*

I slam the door to the cries of my heroin addiction and down another beer.

I know what you mean Kismet. I have so many D&D books I need to read through and so much work I need to do to get prepared for my upcoming game but work keeps interfering and the little time I would have is nonexistent. I've got my dad's wedding this weekend, then my birthday next weekend, then to tallahassee again because my wife is throwing my sister a wedding shower. Then several weddings over the next few months. It's ridiculous.

I'm really hoping I can sneek out of having to go help with the wedding shower and get some alone time that weekend to catch up.

Well, I have a whole big stack of papers to grade, but I just figured out that I don't have to grade them all today, only some of them. Unforunately those few will take a bit of time because they need my comments (and several students asked for my comments, shock!).

I also have to ready a presentation for tomorrow on a book I picked up. I hadn't looked at it till right now but I think I like it. Although it's scholarly, it has a friendly, easy to read tone and things so far are pretty clear. This can only mean good things for me.

I might take More's Utopia with me to read tomorrow between the class I teach and the class I take.

And then I want to get dinner started before Valefor gets home, so it'll be ready right around the time he gets here.

But sometime today I'm going to do something gaming-related goddamn it.

K,

do you have a set of stairs? Grab the pile and toss them down the stairs if you do. The ones that land the furthest get the A's, then second closest get the B's, and so on.

Ok, so that's probably not the best way to judge papers. Fine. I'll go sit over here and preach the wonders of the Randbetween(1,100) function that would provide random grades for each at the push of a button. <_< Hmm...best that I never teach, my methods might actually make some people weep.

If I had a LJ, I would write that same line every day:

I don't wanna work

EDIT: I'm not proud of my cynisism. It's just that getting transfered away from the places I like to work, and to the places I don't for a couple of times in a row makes me dream of high-explosives sometimes, and fire... Anytime I've bettered my situation (remember I'm not a victim), some manager looks at his budget and places me somewhere else. :bomb:

Sorry, had a rough day today.

The tedious part is that the papers I really need to look at need in-depth comments from me on what needs to be revised. This shit takes time, in case you folks didn't know. Work for them also means work for me.

Also, I['m sure you know this already, but check for plagurism. I can tell you that some people in college are lazy and haven't even bothered to use the third or forth page via google's search for their paper's material.

I don't think these folks quite get what college is about tho, so :dunno:

My students have been pretty good about learning to cite sources correctly.

What most folks don't realize is that most teachers don't need to search for plagarism - it stares you in the face when you're reading a paper. You can tell that something doesn't belong, especially at the level I'm teaching. I'm teaching freshman composition, which is actually about a remedial-level class. If I start to see words that are too big, perfect grammar, and complex sentences then I'm going to know something's off, because all of my kids have a problem of some sort. Also, I know their writing styles. Fun.

Yeah, if I ever wrote anything in the grammar was right, then the teacher would have known it wasn't from me. About the only thing with worse grammar than me is the grammar check in Microsoft Word.

No, these people don't get it. They were just told all their lives to go to college. They don't really want to be there but they don't know what else to do because it was so pounded into their heads to go to college. So they get there, they pick some major because its either what the people who told them to go to college said was a good idea or because that’s what sounds cool and they just float though the halls of academia following the path of least resistance.

I can't tell you the number of people who have told me to go to college. Four high school consolers, two parents, four grandparents, a couple dozen friends... EVERYONE. I have some willpower though and have thus far not given in (except for one class at the community college right after high school). Before you guys start ragging on people to go to college just remember it’s not for everyone. I think that high schools should actually evaluate who they are consoling and help that person instead of helping them fill out collage apps and loan requests. All four of my consolers would do nothing but tell me that a high paying job requires a college degree and would not listen to me when I said money is not a big deal to me. It was like talking to a freaking car salesmen trying to pressure you into buying the new Corvette from the dealership when the 22 year old DeLorean you really want is on for sale on the side of the road across the street.

If I keep going like this it will turn into quite the rant, perhaps I should take a break before I go off on a tangent. :bomb:

Dave you really should go to college. Some day you're going to want to impress that woman with the corvette and she's just going to laugh at your delorean.
