So, disenchanted with our beer and pretzels group who really would be better off playing Halo or Magic instead of D&D, my husband and I decided to start a smaller group, pulling together a couple of people who were peripherally involved in the other one at various stages. We had our first session Saturday night. OH. MY. GOD. It was amazing. First off, the party worked together, right from character creation and choosing skills and classes. Everyone tried to make sure most bases were covered. No one tried to hog the spotlight or show off their uberbuild. Weaknesses were compensated for by creative thinking. Secondly, roleplaying. It happened! Characters have names, and personalities, and depth! Kinda creepy. As the main pusher of rp in our group for over a year, I felt like I did the worst job of everyone. (Possibly because the other two haven't been playing with the other group as long and picked up their bad habits?) I really enjoyed the opportunity to try rping for once, and just having the rest of the group do it too made the game about 10 times more interesting. The DM (hubby) couldn't stop babbling about how much he enjoyed DMing. He's excited about it. And I can't fault him. Even I'm getting the itch to make something up for the group sometime. I just had to share because the magic was brought back to D&D for me. I know not all women game like this, and I know not all guys game like our other group, but....damn. It's nice to game with chicks again, regardless. |
