Have you ever watched a show or movie and felt the urge to game because of it? If so, which shows/films caused your urges to game? Are there any reasons why?

When I watch Forever Knight, for example, I feel the urge to play Vampire the Masquerade again. First, because I adore the main character's sire Lacroix and feel that he is the perfect sire ever. I'd have an "I Love Lacroix" t-shirt if I could. I also enjoy the little family unit that the main character, his sire, and Janette formed when they used to be together (which we see all the time in flashbacks). At the same time, I want to play because I feel that I could do the vampire theme more justice than the main character usually does - he's so lawful good most of the time I just want to spit.

When you're making an Adventure, remember to ask, "WWMPD" (What Would My Player's Do?) Then tailor your adventure around that.

Aladdar, that is very cool. And I love the mindflayer t-shirt. =)

And Dave, that is quite a list. I never thought Austin Powers would be a movie to put someone in a gaming mood, but...hey. Why not?

lol, I hoped you might like it. If you actually want to get it, but want something changed on the design just let me know. If not, no biggie. It took all of 10 minutes to do. I just thought it'd be funny.

Brief Forever Knight rant… Great show, but was the last episode of anything more depressing? I mean, really, a lot of people complained over the last year or two of Buffy & Angel, and I can see what they mean, but, pfffft. I survived the last episode of Forever Knight. Nothing TV can throw at me will faze me ever again.

Anyway, to answer your question…

Strangely enough, Buffy and Angel make me want to play Vampire. Not sure why. You’d think it would make you want to play Hunter, but there you go. Oh, and the old Storyteller show always makes me want to play Changeling, but as I am one of the three people in the whole world who like that game, I don’t get too. Bah.

Moving on, The Boondock Saints/Transporter/The Killer and really, any of the great HK action movies make me want to play Feng Shui, and the Three Musketeers/The Princess Bride/Captain Blood/Sharpe/Royal Flash all make me want to buckle-swash in some manner. (An aside: I’m a fencing instructor, or I should say, I used to be. And I don’t think a single lesson went by without the Princess Bride getting quoted at some point. That is how things should be.) Firefly makes me want to play a sci-fi game, and I don’t even know any good sci-fi games (Apart from Fading Suns, but that’s a completely different feel.) for fantasy games, I tend to get more inspired by books than by television/film, with of course, one big exception…

… The Dungeons and Dragons cartoon. I mean, I’m not the only one who loved that show, right? Who finds themselves drawn into it, if ever it is on while they are channel surfing? Who feels strangely compelled to begin gaming just by watching the intro alone?

Right?

David.

It's a terrible business to make up one's mind
So in spite of all comments, reproach and predictions
I firmly adhere to unsettled convictions.

Time travel is a consept I have tried many time (always unsuccessfuly) to incorporate into games but I'm always thinking of new ways to do it and this movie usualy kick starts that.

Plus Dr. Evil's plans of world domination always get my mojo flowing as far as working up the master plans of the villans.

If you're looking for a sci fi roleplaying game similar to firefly you should check out the serenity game that was just recently released.

Sorry to dissapoint you. One of my old players burned me every episode on a DVD as I had never seen them. After the first 5, I stopped and wanted to rip my eyes out. I guess it's one of those things you have to see when you're young.

Don't feel bad. Consider this: I prefer the old british productions of the Chronicles of Narnia over the new ones. I also think "The Great Muppet Caper" is a classic. So, yeah... I'm not exactly a man of sophisticated tastes through and though. :P
She hung up! I'mf going to die alone and nakeds!

Looking back, it was fairly full of cheese (I mean, at the end of the day, it was a Saturday morning cartoon, after all), but there were tons of great gaming ideas within. Since my childhood, I've never seen an episode on TV, but I have them all anyway, so I guess it doesn't matter.

I know a lot of cartoons like that. Remember the old Super Mario Bros. Super Show? I watched some of that the other day and was appalled that it used to be one of my favorites. Right next to them was the Zelda cartoon ("Well EXCUSE me, Princess!) it hurt to watch but I felt compelled as it was a great childhood memory. Ah, nostalgia...
