So Tuesday I ran some errands and ended up taking my Fiend Folio out with me to read while I was waiting. I then carted it into McDonald's for a late lunch when someone in line noticed it and commented on it. So I thought, hey, a gamer. Well, I've got nothing to do for lunch. He was sitting alone so I asked if he wanted to sit with me, to which he said something about having an honest allergy to sunlight and that I could sit with him.

Ooohhh, the warning flag was waving, but it was too late to retreat and save face. I sat down and listened while this guy just unravelled. I could hear the lies he inserted into everything; they were so blatant. He insisted over and over again that he'd had this horrible life but I knew his sort so quickly it was painful. He was the type of person that creates their own vision of a hard life, as well as their own problems. Someone who has to make their life sound as dramatic as possible to cover up or explain all of the things they feel they are lacking.

I was polite but very disappointed. His gaming stories were even worse than his "life" stories, and I'd hoped against hope that I'd met someone worth gaming with. Valefor assures me that when we get involved in more public gaming in the area we are bound to meet many more like the guy. I shudder to think.

There's a guy like that who's always in the books a million in Destin. I noticed him in the gaming section one time so struck up a conversation with him. It was, well interesting to say the least. I kind of felt bad for him, he was so excited to have someone to talk with but he just went on and on and on.

And that, dear readers, is how Aladdar met Fixxxer. ;)

I always thought that was more like how Fixxxer and I first talked on AIM. Poor guy, with me drooling all over his D&D wisdom. As curt as he can be sometimes he is surprisingly polite, even to people that are behaving all psycho. I guess I must have met some sort of standard. Hmm... <_< *puts on a metal hat to ward off brain eating*

Well, he does so enjoy the beatdown much more in person so he can savor their facial expression and watch as their soul becomes nothing more than a sliver of light that is sucked into his being.

Valefore has done good to warn you. The gamer sterotype of a 20 something looser, living with mother, possessing no job, smelling of old gym clothes despite looking like he has never gone to a gym in his life, devoid of girlfriend and obsessed with the hobby to the point of the irritation of others comes from somewhere. They exist, and the more social you are in the gaming world the more of them you will find.

Valefor also said that he noticed that sort of stereotype is more of a D&D phenomenon than anything else. He has noticed that players of other systems, namely White Wolf folk, aren't that type of geek. Different systems attract different people, so different systems get different types of geeks. White Wolf, for instance, gets the drama geeks, who are not only probably involved (or have been) in theater, but are also drama queens in their own lives. But at least they have sex. :D

From the people I have met throughout my gaming experience, I have to say I agree with him.

...with anything that moves. I'd thank Anne Rice for this, but most of the White Wolf players I know are....well, they're not comely.

well I'm a DnD geek but I also have a beautiful wife who gives me lots of kinky sex. I guess I'm just a stereotype breaker.

You want stereotype breaking?

I am Male, 23, white, blonde, blue eyed and live in California.

I should love beer and football. Hate beer, football is alright.

I should be trying to have sex with anything that moves and have a huge porn collection. Nope, just the wife. S'all I need. :D

I should be either infatuated with country, alternative, or R&B. I'm not too big on any of them and prefer soundtracks and orchestral music

I should love tofu and be a moderate to passionate liberal. I hate tofu and tend break stereotypes for the liberal, conservative, nationalist, green party, libertarian and just about every other political group. Can't stand politics.

That's just the beginning.

I sold porn for two years. Does that count? :D

Well, unless you're a student up Berkeley way I can't see why this would be true. Plenty of folks in the state are carnivores and perhaps too many are rigid conservatives for my taste.

Far as I've seen, few folks stick the party lines on all issues. Everyone diverges at various points because stereotypes were made to be broken.

But as a young white male, I'm supposed to either be infatuated with gaining more stuff and keeping it all for myself, or strictly adhearing to some sort of political/religeous group's ideal. I'm supposed to be a yuppie or a tool. At least, that's how 95% of the people I meet treat me. :P

That's cause your wife never came home with a hot friend and said "Hey, honey? Would you mind if we all got naked and played around for a few hours?"

Yeah, I love my life.
