This poll is about the state of today's Bollywood music in comparison to the 90s music we listened to as children or through our teens Do you agree that:- *90s music was one of the best eras lyrically and musically *90s music was good but it doesn't touch other good eras in Bollywood such as the 60s *Sure, music was good from the 90s up to the mid 2000s after which it was relatively poor *2000s produced better music than the 90s *Music right now is as good as its ever been, you lot are just nostaglic mugs! I was just thinking the other day how I barely enjoy any of the current music...post 2005 there have been less and less albums that I listen to on repeat ![]() I mean SRK comes out with a movie and he has a song about Booty-shaking in it ...the "big" song in Aamir Khan's 3 Idiots was "Zoobie Doobie" standards for music in the movies of big stars are very very low - Where are songs like Tujhe Dekha toh (DDLJ) ...Kya Karen Kya Na Karen...(Rangeela)....The music feels so "throw away" and worryingly forgettable ...Where are Bollywood's epic tunes or heartbreakers?? ...where are the Jiye to Jiye Kaise (Saajan) of today or Dil Ki tanhayi ko of Chaahat etc.Sure to some extent there is good music out there - A R Rahman brought it back with Raavan which was great musically esp the Behne De and also Ranjha...but seriously a lot of the other stuff he has done doesn't excite as much as his 90s stuff...MDs today rely heavily on autotune and repetition of lyrics...they hang onto one theme and run with it endlessly remember the Himesh phase ...we now have a Rahat phaseThere was music in the 90s that was repetitive and crappy too but there was always 2 or 3 gems in an album...everyone knows the crappy songs I mean - with lyrics like pyar/khumar/ikraar/bahaar usually with Sameer on lyrics But you know what sometimes the melodies where damn good Where are the good singers like Kumar Sanu of the early 90s or Abhjeet (so underrated) or Udit Narayan (probably had that unmistakable hunky quality to our heroes) or even Alka Yagnik (the only time I probably didn't like her was when Nadeem-Shravan made her sing in that screamy-fashion )... or even Sonu Nigam (probably the most versatile but I hardly hear him on any big album) ![]() There is a tendancy to go for really nasal singers that come off terrible esp when listening on an ipod...people like Atif Aslam and Rahat Fateh are good but Rahat songs all have that very very samey feel - same kind of mukhra - yes there have been some classics like Dil Toh Baccha Hai ji... or even Bol Na Halke Halke and some others...I also don't think of him as a versatile singer...even in Dil Mera Muft the problem with the song is the singers inability to do the right harkats in the song - I much prefer someone like Kailash Kher instead of Rahat but he is barely there ...Javed Ali is also a new singer but doesn't have a lot of range ...just look at the fact that Sonu did the crooning over the Guzaarish track in Ghajini ...I have gone towards Pakistani rock even Bhangra albums (which is not really my kind of music) and stars like Sukhshinder Shinda and Gunjan because of this boredom PLEASE VOTE & ALSO DISCUSS x |

Voted for: Sure, music was good from the 90s up to the mid 2000s after which it was relatively poor But lyrically, 90s were the best without a doubt! Musicwise for me: 90s upto mid 2000s

I voted for: 90s music was one of the best eras lyrically and musically. But that doesnt make this era bad. I love the music which they produce today. |

I love music from all times of Bollywood. Listening to songs from the 70s and 80s is always beautiful. Listening the 90s and early00's songs gives me the best feeling in the world because I get stupidly nostalgic, and then I get depressed and start missing those days etc blah blah. But music today is equally awesome man. I love Bollywood music. end of. So glad for every decade having bought a different flavour. Love it. No day of mine is complete without listening to Bollywood songs from the 70s, 80s, 90s, early 00s and present day. Edited by Ishaqzaadi, May 25 2012, 02:33 PM.

I agree that 90's was the best. And from last 5-6 yrs, music is shit, ofcourse the times and tastes have changed , but that doesnt mean that this music is good, its just noise and somehting that doesnt need any training. Forget abt gr8 albums, there are jsut 2-3 good songs every yr. |

Thank u!! Amru bhai the voice of reason ![]() 10 or 20 years down the line I doubt we will be listening to half this sh!t on MP3 or MP4 or whatever technology is out just now... There are only a handful of songs every year that stay in the memory... People who think the music now is as great as ever, I would really really be interested to know what it is they listen to

I voted for 90s music was good but it doesn't touch other good eras in Bollywood such as the 60s. I grew up with the 90s songs especially SRK's. Music nowadays is very throwaway. Repeat listening might apply to a certain song for a few months but 2-3 years down the line you would have already forgotten about it. Although songs from the 60s and 70s are amazing they have their own appeal and sound specific to that era of film |

I love listening to 90s music because it gives me this crazy nostalgic feeling of my childhood and listening to all these songs. I think growing up in the 90s is what made me love the music so much though. As much as I love songs like Munni Badnaam and Sheila Ki Jaawani... they still can't beat out the 90s with Tumse Milke and other songs. 60s music was good too... I love Aaja Sanam Madhur Chandani Mein Hum (My first bollywood song) - I think that's either the 50s or 60s. |

...the "big" song in Aamir Khan's 3 Idiots was "Zoobie Doobie" standards for music in the movies of big stars are very very low
- Where are songs like Tujhe Dekha toh (DDLJ) ...Kya Karen Kya Na Karen...(Rangeela)....
...Where are Bollywood's epic tunes or heartbreakers?? ...where are the Jiye to Jiye Kaise (Saajan) of today or Dil Ki tanhayi ko of Chaahat etc.
and repetition of lyrics...they hang onto one theme and run with it endlessly remember the Himesh phase
...we now have a Rahat phase
But you know what sometimes the melodies where damn good
